The stability in the classroom is necessary to meet basic needs of students. I believe firmly that if basic human needs are not met then there is no hope for curricular learning to take place. The student needs to be comfortable to learn. To correct a behavior that is already in progress prevention can also be a method of attack. Some may think that learning is solely associated with school and or specific training regimens. Some people say they hate learning new things yet they know how to use all the latest technical devices. Even the defiant teenager who refuses to cooperate in class or participate in the discussion is learning. He or she is testing the instructor. If the instructor reacts by yelling or attempting to force the student, he or she is learning they can gain attention or control of the classroom through their behavior.
Fallon (2006) states it is important because certain guidelines have to be followed by the counselor during a session and when a client becomes involuntary this puts the counselor in a comprising position. This is mainly because the incorporation of the client places limits on the direction of the sessions in the group. Another issue is that is unique to group counseling is confidentiality. Counselors should clearly define what confidentiality means, why it is important and the difficulties involved in its enforcement (Lasky and Riva, 2006). Emphasize importance of maintaining confidentiality before the group begins and at various times in the group.
The responsibility to deliver the proper and unbiased learning curriculum lies in the hands of the educator. Although, generally the curriculum is approved and handed down by the state; the educator must possess the capacity to lecture the students in a proper manner. Students must not be treated or educated differently on the basis of religion, gender, or nationality. Every effort must be made by the educator in order to provide an environment which is conducive to the learning process. An educator should constantly be revising lesson plans and expanding their own knowledge in order to deliver an optimal learning experience for the students.
I think there, precisely, lies our responsibility to use ourselves as effective facilitators and introduce certain concepts and interventions only when participants are ready for them. I think that a well attuned therapist who works collaboratively with participants will not introduce interventions prematurely at the risk of a potential serious setback for the therapeutic process. But this is why engaging, assessing and evaluating are ongoing transactional throughout the therapeutic alliance. I do, however, think CBT has limitations as does any other form of therapy. I think that working with participants who have severe mental illness might be a challenge.
