WERE THE ATOMIC BOMBINGS JUSTIFIED?... The use of the Atomic bombs on Japans Hiroshima and Nagasaki were completely sad and horrific in the aftermath, but I do believe it was justified. The war in the Pacific had been raging for almost foru years. Following the firebombing campaign that destroyed many Japanese cities, the Allies prepared for a costly invasion of Japan. The war in Europe ended when Nazi Germany signed its surrender on May 8,and hitler committed suicide, but the Pacific War continued. Together with Britain, and the Republic of China, the United States called for a surrender of Japan in the Potsdam Declaration on July 26 1945, threatening Japan with "prompt and utter destruction". The Japanese government ignored this, and two nuclear weapons developed by the Manhattan Project were deployed. Little Boy was dropped on the city of Hiroshima on August 6 1945, followed by the Fat Man over Nagasaki 3 days later on August 9. I believe it was justified because 4 yearss earlier Japan struck Pearl Harbor killing thousands of u.s navy troops and many civilians living on the island. Also japan was on a rampage conquering many countries in the pacific. Also I think it was justified because of numerous accounts of Japanese soldiers torturing and raping many Chinese civilians and troops when they took over parts of china. Japan showed no fear or resentment in there brutal tactics of taking over land. Also the bombings can be justified because they were military bases and industrialized ports. Many people may think that the US chose to bomb the most populated areas only to kill many innocent civilians, vbut they were not intended to do so. The two cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chosen because they were industrialized and military ports. This is strong reason why the bombings could be justified.
