1.1 Describe a range of causes of dementia syndrome Dementia is describe as collection of symptoms including memory loss, problems with reasoning and communication skills, and a reduction in a person's abilities and skills in carrying out daily activities. It’s also a progressive condition, which means the symptoms will gradually get worse. This progression will vary from person to person and each person will experience dementia in a different way. Although there’s lots of different types of dementia the most common are the Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, front-temporal lobe dementia and dementia with lewy bodies. Alzheimer disease Causes: * Alzheimer disease has been identified as a result of different factors, being the most common age, genetic inheritance, environmental factors. Apart from these factors, we have also risk groups in which we include people with Down’s syndrome, that live into their 50s and 60s, people who had severe or whiplash injuries, also people who smoke or with high cholesterol levels or diabetes. There is recent evidence that one's environment and experiences early in life may also play a role in the eventual development of Alzheimer's. Vascular dementia Causes: * It is caused by problems in the supply of blood to the brain. If by any reason the system of brain’s blood supply gets damaged, brain cells start to die and this can lead to vascular dementia. High blood pressure, heart problems, high cholesterol and diabetes are some of the aspects that can disrupt the normal delivery of blood to the brain. * Among the most common risk factors that lead to vascular dementia we find the medical history of stroke or family medical history, sleep apnoea, the lack of physical activity, heavy drinking, smoking, eating a fatty diet or leaving conditions such as high blood pressure or untreated
