There are several different schools of thought on the meaning and application of total quality management. Typically, Total Quality Management (TQM) is defined using such words as customer service, employee involvement, improvement and integration. While these words together give a good definition of TQM, there is still room for subjectivity. The definition can change to suit the person/persons using the term. In order to fully understand the concept of TQM, one must first understand the main component: Quality and its definition. There are five descriptions of quality: conformances to specifications, fitness for use, value for price paid, support services and the psychological criteria. In the case Delta Plastics, Inc. case study, we discuss the company’s new product and how the company expects it to perform in the market place. The quality of the new product is compared and contrasted with that of an existing product in order to reach a conclusion on how to market the product. Answer 1 The four main players in the Delta Plastics, Inc case are Isabelle Harrison the director of Research and Development (R&D), Jose De Costa, director of manufacturing, George Chadwick, director of marketing, and Jonathan Fine, the CEO of Delta Plastics. While discussing a strategy for the production of the new product the group had four different opinions as to how to proceed. Isabelle believes that the product should be tested further in order to ensure that the kinks have been discovered and fixed.
