Dell: Ethics and Compliance University of Phoenix FIN 370 Defined through the Dell Corporation is its strong compliance with ethics and laws through its employees and company. Dell Corporation works hard to comply with the rules and regulations of the government. Ethics also plays a role in the Dell Corporation within the company. Employees work hard to comply with the ethics and laws of the government through the financial end of the business. Ethics is an important theme essential in the world of finance as companies, such as Enron and Bernie Madoff costs investors billions of dollars by intentionally misrepresenting their financial statuses (Titman, Keown, & Martin, 2011; pp. 10). The government created the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2002 to ensure businesses comply with financial standards and holds corporate advisors, accounts, CEOs, and the board of directors accountable for their actions. Dell is an example of an award-winning company for its compliance and ethics. In 2010, Dell is run by the Open Compliance and Ethics Group for the company’s programs addressing anti-corruption, employment compliance, and government contracts (West, 2010). Dell focuses on remaining compliant by addressing current issues and preparing for the future. Dell assigns responsibilities to its managers and holds them accountable to achieve the goals of the programs by identifying and evaluating risks. Managers at Dell set examples for their employees by promoting and encouraging ethical behavior by its employees. Dell records and manages its compliance system information (West, 2010).
