If I were to ask a handful of people what they considered a "good friend" to be, everyone would give different responses. Everybody has a unique definition of what they think a good friend is. Anyone who has ever had a good friend knows that they are essential for us to feel like we belong. However, it is rare to find what is widely considered a good friend. A good friend is someone who is capable of putting in equal efforts to maintain a close and genuine relationship with one another through anything and everything. That person has your best interest at heart. "Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down." (Winfrey, Oprah) We all have those certain friends that only come around when it is convenient for them. Personally, I think a good friend should be considered a joy in my life because he or she is a person whom I can trust, rely and depend on, especially in times of trouble and sorrow. Rarely do we find an actual "good friend" because in many cases, friends come and go in life. Only a select few stay in your life, especially during times of difficulty. A good friend is a source of companionship and joy. Aside from being a shoulder to cry on in times of trouble and loneliness, a good friend also adds light to our life. There is something special knowing that someone shares the same unforgettable memories as we do. Further more, a good friend matters because he or she is someone we can trust with even the innermost secrets that we all have. Without a good friend, we would have no one to share our problems with. We would also have no one to share the good times we experience in our day-to-day life. I personally believe that friendship comes easily when two people share the same interests and views in life.
