Thomas Jefferson once said, “Action will delineate and define you.” Pride in your actions, pride in your words, and pride in yourself all make for real success and Thomas Jefferson knew, and lived with that mindset. Being proud in everything we do as Americans is the foundation of success. Your personal best is all you can ever accomplish and once you’ve done that, you can rest easy in knowing great rewards come with hard work. We see proof of this in every aspect of American life, a lifestyle that was built from the ground up on
The American dream cannot be defined, not by the government, not by your parents, and not by anyone but yourself. The reason people flock to America is that their pursuit of their dream is not dictated by social status, family wealth, or class. America gives its citizens’ freedom, to keep their beliefs and to preach them free of punishment and government interaction. All Americans are entitled to these freedoms and to truly have the ability to pursue their goals free of fear and judgment. Risks can and must be taken free of guilt, “A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for (William Shedd).” It is equality that built this nation and it is that strong belief that runs this country today.
But being an American doesn’t mean only to live within the boundaries of the United States or simply holding a U.S. citizenship. American people are not defined by “blood and soil” but more likely as Teddy Roosevelt said” Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul.” As a diverse country, what unite the disparate people who make up our country are common constitutional principles interpreted by the political culture, which is defined as broadly shared value, beliefs, and attitudes about how the government should function. American political culture emphasizes the values of liberty, equality, and democracy, and that is what sets our country apart from others. As David Miller, a leading liberal nationalist, emphasizes, a shared sets of characteristics constituting a national culture is a necessary feature of national identity. “ As with many other nations in the world, America has to bear the brunt of national identity erosion in the face of globalization.
On the other hand, you can have a civil rights. You can live and work equally without any races discrimination for all people who lives in in the USA. Third, immigrants in America can reunite or join your family again and help them in money and traditional gifts. Therefore, immigrants can live in a safe environment and have better opportunities to do many activities such as sports, music, and dance etc. In conclusion, immigrants from around the world have their own reasons to come to the USA.
Roosevelt, he wrote “This nation takes great satisfaction and much strength from the things which have been done to make its people conscious of their individual stake in the preservation of democratic life in America. Those things have toughened the fiber of our people, have renewed their faith and strengthened their devotion to the institutions we make ready to protect” What Roosevelt meant by this is that because of all of the benefits of living in our country and the fact that people get to do what they want to do, it helps us stay together as a union and as a whole, because the people know that a brighter future is ahead of us. We are all
U.S. History 7 October 2011 American Rights Today, the United States of America is known as the “land of the free”. Citizens of our nation have freedoms that no other country provides their people with. This makes American a very unique place to live. The United States has a constitution stating the freedoms of which it provides its people, which includes the first ten amendments, otherwise known as the Bill of Rights. Today it is said that america still provides access to the American Dream. Don't be fooled into thinking that freedom still lies within america. The American Dream is capable for some people. it is not however capable to everyone which is why america is not a land of opportunity. America is not the land it use to be.
What does it mean to be an American? The historian Philip Gleason put it this way, “To be or to become an American, a person did not have to be any particular national, learning languages, religious, or ethnic background. All he had to do was to commit himself to the political ideology centered on the abstract ideals of liberty, equality, and republicanism. Thus the universalist ideological character of American nationality meant that it was open to anyone who willed to become an American.” To be an American one must act as an American. They must pay taxes, vote in elections, and serve their country whether at home or abroad.
What is something that we desire to have, work diligently our entire life for, and will do almost anything to obtain? It is success. Webster's dictionary defines success as "favorable or desired outcome the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence." As humans, we all want to be successful whether it be in school or just life in general. to me success in general is over coming the hard ships faced in order to complete something to beyond proficiency, to me success is getting an A+ on that assignment.
