Visual arts is defined as a form of art that creates work that are primarily visual in nature, such as architecture, ceramics, filmmaking, drawing, video, painting, photography, sculpture, crafts, printmaking and design. These definitions should not be taken too strictly as many artistic disciplines (performing arts, conceptual art and textile art) involve aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of other types. Visual arts are nay form of art that can be seen. Also included within visual arts are the applied arts such as graphic design, fashion design, interior design, industrial design and decorative design. The current usage of the term “visual arts” includes fine art as well as the applied, decorative arts and crafts.

There are several differences in visual art compared to other forms of art. Art is a medium through which we express our emotions, intellect and ideas. Many different forms express themselves through art in different ways. Even though all art can be seen and would be considered to be labeled as “visual art” there is much difference between the different forms of art. It is through art that we can communicate to the world our inner feelings and our creativity that only exists within our minds. One example of a form of art that is outside of visual art is music. Many do not feel that music should be considered as a form of art but it is. Music is pure sound, notes, instrumentals and beats that is all put together with lyrics (sometimes) to create a song or verse. Musicians express their feelings and emotions through their music. Music is heard and not seen, unless it is put together with another art form such as performing arts. However, initially music is a form of art that is outside of visual arts when played.
