Defining Moment Braining Storming Topic: Getting admission into a university. Being rejected is a horrible thing in today’s society, no one wants to go through that. Acceptance to a University is a big thing, you never want to be tht person who gets rejected by universities. Going to college was always the next step for most people after high school. As people get rejected by different schools they begin to revaluate their goals and life. Some people would lose faith in going to college and may decide to join the military and others will build faith and look for another route. As my father got rejected to the university he applied to, he never lost faith even when it took him so many years to get into a university in Nigeria, as for me being rejected to some schools made me lose faith until my father told me his struggle with getting admission to an university. my father was schooled in Nigeria and getting accepted to an university was very hard. Acceptance was less about your grades and more on who your parents were. If your parents weren’t one of the rich families in Nigeria then there was a small chance of you being accepted into any of the universities. Also the competition was very high because it was also based on who gives the university the most money and if your parents weren’t really known you have to give bribes inorder to b accepted. Coming from a poor family my father’s parents were not one of those known families, therefore it was very competitive for my father to get into a university. Even though, he was one of the best in his class just because his name “didn’t ring a bell” to the admission committee he was rejected many times. As he got rejected for many years he still didn’t give up on his goal. After a few years of struggling to get into an university, my father took his exams again for the consecutive time in order to be
