This argument contends that sex is an appetite like any other, with a number of ways of being sated. None of these ways, as odd or irregular as they may seem, should be considered unnatural. Therefore, once
Russon argues that sexuality is foundation of meaningfulness and a developed human life. An erotic experience allows us to sense ourselves as individuals. Engaging in an erotic experience causes the emergence of our sense of individuals because we experience the epiphany that “I am this body.” (76) This erotic epiphany allows us to truly recognize ourselves and the other person jointly desiring in our mutual desires. Since this experience is accomplished with another person, it becomes an experience of freedom because
Sexual decisions affect not only our physical wellbeing but our mental and even spiritual wellbeing too. Positive sexual experiences can make us more confident in how we see ourselves, raise our self-esteem, and make us hold ourselves in a generally higher regard. Negative sexual experiences can sometimes irreparably damage our self-esteem and self-image, making us perpetually insecure and unsure, making it difficult for us to have healthy personal relationships both platonic and sexual. It is up to us to decide which decisions will be for our ultimate benefit or loss, and running it through the filter of critical thinking is a way to judge this. In my own life I used critical thinking perhaps less often than I should have when making sexual decisions, however, there was one area that I am proud to say I always exhibited control over- contraception.
The word ‘gay’ has multiple definitions. I use the word gay in the terms of homosexuality. Intersexual means a person relates to, or has the condition of being intermediate between, both male and female. Trans* is an umbrella term for any individual who is, or identifies, as the opposite sex from which they were born. Bisexuality is the attraction to two sexes, male and female.
Me personally, I think anyone should have a right to marry whoever they want to marry because nobody cannot change a person’s lifestyle unless that person wants to change. Homosexuals should have equal rights as Heterosexuals do. They are humans just like everyone else. They work, provide, nurture, etc. just as we do but different sexual orientation.
The article defines sexuality as “one of the most natural and basic aspects of one’s life as a human being” (Pangman & Seguire, 2000, p. 51). It focuses on an individual’s self-esteem, self concept, and body image while completely defining the individual and who they are (Pangman & Seguire, 2000). Sexuality is expressed not only in a physical aspect but also psychologically and socially by serving as a way to show intimacy and closeness, loyalty, passion and affection (Pangman & Seguire, 2000). The key principle being that “experiencing same-sex attraction is not the same thing as having a gay identity or being gay” (p 105). My reaction to his approach to homosexuality was one of compassion and understanding. His “humility” and “charity” approach evoked feelings of great compassion and a need to try and understand those who are struggling and trying to make sense
Personal Response on Sexuality Identity PSY/265 Personal Response on Sexuality Identity To understand my personal response on sexual identity, one would have to examine several areas in my life, such as value system and critical thinking process. Understand the effects of environmental and historical perspectives that influenced my sexual identity and the development of my gender identity. Once recognizing my own sexual identity, the effects of attraction and love had on my relationship. Through defining and gaining insight of sexual abuse, I was able to realize I suffered from post-traumatic stress syndrome. Value System Everyone has a value system that helps him or her with the sexual decision-making process.
