Coleen and five other female employees filed a wrongful termination and sexual harassment lawsuit against BNC when the work environment turned hostile in 2005. According to the lawsuit Coleen was starting to question loans a certain male wholesaler was submitting to her. Upon Coleen evaluating the loan information, she noticed some of the numbers (salaries and value of homes) did not look right. When Coleen mentioned this to the male wholesaler, he in turn told her not to worry about and then began to bribe Coleen so that she would let the loans be accepted. Sylvia Vega Smith, a mother of four children, worked as a wholesaler for BNC and was making commission money hand over fist; $16,000 per month.
The victim of this crime is not known to the offender, but is chosen because she/he meets criteria specific to the killer's psychological construct. In multiple, linked homicides, the similarities in appearance of the victims will be obvious. For example, most of Ted Bundy's victims looked just like his ex-fiancee. This offender plans his murders, spends time targeting his victims, and displays control over the scene. He is methodical and orderly throughout all phases of the crime.
His theory had two basic elements, firstly it pointed out that criminal behaviour is learned by the interaction within intimate personal groups through communication this includes techniques for committing the crimes (Bernard et al., 2010 p.180). Gottfredson and Hirschi (1990) contest this statement explaining the average delinquent act may be committed before the interactions with other delinquents as the crime may need no special skills (Smith & Brame 1994). The delinquent behaviour and the pleasure derived from the act may cause the attraction to and joining of a delinquent social group meaning this behaviour is not learned
In other cases some criminals are born with the lack of humility, which is the ability to put yourself in the situation of the person who you are doing harm to. These people are considered sociopaths. Another theory called the rational choice theory states that everyone has their own thoughts and emotions for which they commit their crimes weather to improve their living standards or to avoid hardships. Intelligence can play a huge role in the mind of a criminal; this is considered the nature theory. A person who does not know any better is much more likely to commit a crime then a well educated person, although this
They both argue that ‘nothing works’ right realists are more concerned with solving crime rather than understanding the causes. As detailed in item a, right realism favours increasing the cost paid by those who commit crimes by for example giving harsher sentencing. Right realists such as James Wilson and Richard Herrnstien put forward a biosocial theory of crime. They believe that criminal behaviour is made up of biological and social factors. They believe that people may be biological more attracted to committing crime than others for example, they believe traits such as aggression and risk taking are inborn in the person and this causes them to commit crimes.
She just shoved in her clothes, her jewellery, her perfumes” (page 281) shows her to be a vain, desperate creature who strives to give her life some purpose but is looking in all the wrong places. The passage “She joined the CWA, mixed with Corrigan’s leading ladies, helped cater for events and joined all the amateur pleared-skirt sporting fraternities and committees” (page 97) emphasises her desire to be a well-thought of and active member of the community. However her materialistic values are shown to be void and meaningless: “... she dragged that empty suitcase to her vanity table. She stole it from me, but she had nothing precious of her own to pack in it. She just shoved in her clothes, her jewellery, her perfumes” (page 281) shows her to be a vain, desperate creature who strives to give her life some purpose but is looking in all the wrong places.
Some adolescents are motivated to commit crime because they don’t fear the consequences. Most delinquents in my opinion are rational thinkers. It is my opinion that delinquents commit crimes for personal gain (money, street credit), gang initiation, or simply for fun. This is why I agree with choice theory. Choice theory is where offenders are rational decision makers who choose to engage in anti-social activity because they believe their actions will be beneficial.
nt Thousands of middle-class children are caught shoplifting every year. Caroline King's daughter was one I was enjoying a rare moment of relaxation when my phone rang. It was the head of security at Topshop informing me that my 14-year-old daughter had been caught shoplifting with a friend. CCTV cameras showed them shoving items into bags containing some goods for which they had already paid. After leaving the shop, they had been stopped on the pavement, told to put their hands above their heads and marched back through the store to be dealt with like the 40 to 50 others who, every month at this branch of the teen Mecca, are caught slipping things into their bags or up their jumpers.
Examining Theory Paper A social learning theory says that all behavior is learned in much the same way and that such learning includes the acquisition of norms, values, and patterns of behaviors conducive to crime, meaning that crime is also learned and that people learn to commit crime from others (Schmalleger, F., 2012). One would think about this theory when he/she thinks about the crimes that a person would commit to get caught and sent to Tent City, Arizona. Social Structure Theory Seigel (2000), “Social structure theories suggest people's places in the socioeconomic structure influence their chances of becoming a criminal”. According to this theory if a person is poor he/she may commit crimes because they feel that there is no
Women in the work force had a lower pay rate and were quicker to be fired than men. Many women who were fired took advantage of new job opportunities and began practicing switchboard and clerical work. The American government tried to help out by giving jobs to the heads of households (doc 5). African Americans suffered heavily from the depression as they were known to be the “last ones hired and the first ones fired.” They were often discriminated and ignored, leaving them out to dry. In 1941, Sleeping-Car Porters Union president, A. Phillip Randolph, threatened a massive march on Washington.
