Decision-Making Process Paper Juan Galvan MTG230 August 19, 2012 Mark Trask Decision-Making Process Paper It was 2008 and the United States economy was in downward trend. At that time I was working in as an Iron Worker in the Seattle, WA area. I knew I did not want to be working in construction my entire life so I made a decision to pursue my Associates degree from the University of Phoenix. I had attended a community college in my area while working fulltime and was able to transfer about 30 credits towards my Associates degree at the University of Phoenix. The process started when I received a phone call while on lunch break from a University of Phoenix. The individual on the line spoke with me about potentially going back to school and getting my degree and then asked me an excellent open ended question “why haven’t you gone back to get your degree?” I responded with an honest “I don’t know.” While we discussed the opportunity further I really got a clear picture of where I wanted to be in 5 years and how I wanted to get there. I knew working construction was just a means to live for the moment and knew that I wanted more from life. I asked myself key questions regarding my decision making process. First I asked myself, when do you plan on getting your degree? Why haven’t you gotten your degree already? Where do you want to be in 5-10 years? What can I do to make sure I get to where I want to be? These key questions were my first initial step in the process to make sure I knew why I wanted to pursue a degree and what I wanted to accomplish with it. My next step was to make sure I was prepared mentally to handle this change because I had been out of school for a couple years.
