Debate Over Corporal Punishment There are many arguments to whether corporal punishment is appropriate or if it is even necessary. In this paper I will be discussing the main issues involved in the debate over corporal punishment given within the home and within our schools. I will be comparing the different arguments about corporal punishment and the different views on whether corporal punishment should remain in the schools or be removed. I will also discuss if corporal punishment and delinquency are related and the effects corporal punishment has on our children. Corporal punishment is defined as any punishment in which physical force is used and intended to cause some degree of pain or discomfort. It is physical punishment inflicted on a child by an adult in authority. The most frequent form of corporal punishment is spanking, grabbing, slapping, paddling, swatting or shoving a child with force to move them. Corporal punishment given within the schools and home is the most common that causes disagreements. From all the information being studied and researched, is there adequate evidence that corporal punishment is correct or incorrect? There are many places where corporal punishment is used, but I want to focus on schools and homes. In both schools and homes adults, either teachers or parents, discipline children. There is a big difference in corporal punishment at home and within the school. Parents know their children much better than teachers because they have been with them throughout their life, where as teachers are only with students so many hours a day. Teachers often have large numbers of students in their classroom so it is difficult for teachers to have one-on-one time with each student. Some parents are opposed to corporal punishment period, even within the homes, while others only oppose it outside the home. I don't think corporal
