Death Penalty Would you ever kill someone for revenge? An eye for an eye? If we did this to every person who committed a crime, it wouldn’t make us any better. That is why I am against capital punishment. For those who think that killing a person because they killed someone will help reduce crime are wrong. Two wrongs don’t make a right, so what makes someone think that by sending a murderer to death row will help bring back the person he/she killed? People who commit terrible crimes think on a whim, they don’t think about the consequences enough to realize what they are about to do. The people who kill are more than likely poor people, or people who don’t have a lot of money, so when they get sent to death row, they can’t afford a good lawyer. Statistics show that each year, innocent people on death row that have been executed have increased. There have been cases where a person who kills is insane, and they don’t know what they are doing. Some people even say that a “voice” told them to do it. Some people are very emotionally unstable and cannot think correctly. It is conservatively estimated that 5-10% of death row inmates suffer from serious mental illness. Instead of killing someone who is mentally sick, we should send them to a facility that can help them get better because if we kill them, it would not make us any less of a monster than they are. Some states will overlook the fact that a person is seriously sick from the mind, and still believe they should be executed. Some serial killers might have been traumatized as a kid and that’s what caused them to be crazy and kill. They start believing in things that have something to do with their past, and act on those emotions without thinking. If one is mentally sick, and put under pressure by police officers during interrogation, they confess to something that they did not do. Do you honestly believe that
