This is usually in a graphical way or in a tabular form. The need for Data mining arises when difficult problems are encountered which have no obvious solutions. Data mining software finds correlations or patterns among many fields in large databases. Data mining software is used to analyze large volumes of data which would be almost impossible for a human being to process. It can be used to solve problems such as the optimization of a manufacturing process. It can be used to detect fraudulent transactions or assessing risk to give a few examples. Definition of terms: Data: Are any facts, numbers or text that can be processed by a computer, data can be operational or transactional data such as, sales, cost, inventory, payroll, and accounting. Non-operational data can be industry sales, forecast data and macro economic data. Meta data which is data about the data itself, such as logical database design or data dictionary definitions. Information • The patterns, associations or relationships among all data can provide information. For example, analysis of retail point of sale transaction data can yield information on which products are selling and when. Knowledge Information can be converted into knowledge about
