The author writes this article for respond at Kevin Powell’s article “Notes of Hip Hop Head.” The article reaches black women. In “Hip-Hop’s Betrayal of Black Women” Vol.4, No.1 2006 Jennifer Mclune tries to get reader attention that hip-hop men song not only dehumanizes women but
The huge black market for alcohol controlled by crime organizations grew so large that many of the criminal groups were able to build their empires mainly on profits from illegal alcohol. This in turn made them grow in power and their influence on society increased. Many politicians and law enforcements became corrupt, and turned a blind eye to the illegal activity since they were bribed. Prohibition also led to economic consequences. Before the liquor ban, many states relied on tax revenues, and when Prohibition went into effect, those revenues were lost- causing the United Nations to lose 11 billion
The primary cause of violence in the African-American community is gang activity. These sobering statistics are affecting our community in a terrible way. Street gangs have been around since the nineteenth century. (CITATION) Gang violence is a problem in every major city in the United States and membership in gangs is on the rise The FBI’s 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment report states that there are more than 1.4 million active gang members in the United States. This is a 40% increase over the estimated 1-million gang members in 2009.
He was a star, and thats such a rare thing. Shakurs notoriety among mainstream audiences had much to do with his outlaw image, which was derived in large part from his frequent and high-profile scrapes with the law. Given his upbringing, however, this was perhaps to be expected. He was in prison, he often reminded interviewers, before he was born. His mother, Afeni Shakur, was a member of the militant Black Panther movement; in 16 she and 0 others in the organization were arrested in connection with an alleged conspiracy to blow up several buildings in New York City.
Do you agree with the view that the main effect of increasing media coverage of the royal family from the 1970s onwards was to damage the image of the monarchy? Media coverage was sincerely damaging to the monarchy from the 1970s onwards. The media made the royal family seem like a celebrity family rather than a royal family, as they focused on their private lives. The media undermined the monarchy through stories of their sexual deviancies and marital mishaps. Source 15 backs up this point; it’s message is that the media has shown the royal families true colours, albeit very bland colours.
These words and phrases were commonly used during the 60s and 70s to describe certain aspects of the heroin trade. “American pop culture historians place a direct link between… pop stars and celebrities… and heroin” (Mark 1). Another way the music industry has been greatly affected by heroin was the deaths of many famous music stars like Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobaine. Both were very popular in the 70s and made heroin look glamorous to many young fans. Other artists such as Ray Charles, Van Morrison, and Robert Downy Jr. have had their careers greatly affected by the use of heroin.
Stapleton tells us that many believe the concern over sexual violence is not as big a concern of racial problems. Stapleton throws us the idea that many hip-hop artists felt that hip-hop was being considered objectionable because white youth were consuming it. Stapleton uses this to reveal where a large amount of criticism is coming from in both racial and genre issues. Stapleton brings up a gathering of hip-hop artists and rappers showing us that serious discussions were being had about the genre and the changes in it. We see in Stapleton’s words how hip-hop has become a dangerous genre and how responsibility lies in the artists, managers, record companies, and parents when it comes to the music.
The media is not always completely truthful about information it publishes, especially on touchy subjects which the general public just eats up. This brings up one of Matthew’s fourteen maxims; the press is the enemy. One of the newest sex scandals involving a former U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner, deals with the downward spiral that’s created when scandalous subjects are leaked into the media. Anthony Weiner sent a sexual photograph publicly over the popular social media site Twitter, to a young female follower. Once the press got a hold of it Weiner quickly dined it, but then realized that the storm had already come.
Substance Abuse against Public Officials Drug abuse has tainted our nation and its citizens to believe that taking illegal drugs can be non prohibited and can not be taken seriously. Many public figures have taken the wrong turn and has either been in possession of illegal drugs and/or has taken them. Because public figures are set to be as an example and a representation of their position, the idea of taking illegal substances has been almost negligible to some. Allegations of drug abuse and other scandalous actions have caused the current mayor of Toronto, Robert Ford, to become the target of the wrath of Toronto city council members. The parties who are against Ford, have created a negotiation to remove Ford from his position as a result
Left as just another misogynistic belief embedded in the fabric of society. This was not the case; the organisers of SlutWalk challenged him directly then challenged the entire police organisation. Now SlutWalk is challenging society’s patriarchal structure. The use of the word ‘slut’ itself challenges society’s conventions, gaining attention and turning the meaning of the word to their advantage. Slut challenges the beliefs held in association of the powerful word.
