Understand the factors that influence children and young people’s development and how these affect practice. Explain how children and young people’s development is influenced by a range of personal factors If a child was born with a condition or later develops one in life this could affect the child’s development. If the child has an illness such as asthma which affects the child’s breathing, due to this the child might be less likely to play and be active with their friends as their condition may restrict them for doing so. This may mean the child has less understanding of appropriate group interaction. Disabilities in a child can cause a development delay.
Many children with disabilities usually need more structured and clearly amorphous surroundings, also behaviorally, than a general education classroom can offer. ADHD’s basic signs for children with an ADHD are lack of concentration, hyperactivity, and impulsivity causes child children to cope with day to day school challenges (Zentall, 1993). Children with ADHD have trouble sustaining attention to stay on task; this causes them to miss important details on their assignments, distraction during class activities and difficulty organizing assignments. According to doctor (Russell Barkley), he said that “children with ADD/ADHD have the tendency to fall behind about 30 percent, when it comes to their developmental performance.” In fact, the NIH
Isabel Kinsley CYP 3.1 2.1/3.2/3.3 There are many factors which can affect a child’s development both positively and negatively. These include: Health status Disability Sensory impairment Depending on how healthy the child is can have a big impact on the child’s development. For example a child with bad health or medical conditions is likely to miss a lot of school for medical appointments or general illness and are therefore more likely to fall behind at school. Children with a learning difficulty or a disability often don’t get the help ad support they need. Often children with disabilities or learning disabilities need extra support to achieve their potential.
Family background can effect a child's development by the family's values the culture and the way the child is encouraged and cared for all can effect the child development. The child environment can effect the development of the child e.g. Housing condition , opportunities for play and educational. Poverty and deprivation can affect the child's development because Lack of money can lead to poor nutrition and lack of opportunity and also lower expectations. Children and young people in the care system are more vulnerable, often due to the lack of stability and attachment disorder this can affect their emotional ,social and academic development.
They can quickly fall behind from peers of the same age. They may find it difficult to interact and make friends with others who are more advanced. They may struggle with intellectual development memory and concentration. Delayed speech development A child who has limited or no speech could be a cause great concern. This would affect a child’s social and communication development as he/she would find it difficult to listen and speak to peers staff and carers this could also affect their behaviour possibly becoming frustrated and quite angry Whatever concern you have about a Childs development in any area, you should always share it with others.
Describe with examples how different aspects of development can affect one another; When it comes to different aspects of development there are many examples that can describe how it effects one another, some of these are as follows: If a child is less developed in reading, when it comes to children having reading time in groups, they may feel uncomfortable and unable to form friendships due to embarrassment and low self esteem. This will then affect their language and social development. This can cause the child to feel lonely and angry at themselves because they are not at the other children's level of learning. If a child doesn't like to share toys, this can cause a problem with social interaction as they will find it hard to form friendships. The other children will try to avoid the child that is unable to share, this can affect the emotional and social development of the child who is unwilling to share as they will feel lonely and neglected and even abandoned.
If a child with a disability has emotional developmental delay they may form friendships with children who are much younger than they are which could affect how their same age peers see them. Their peers may label them inappropriately due to this which may cause feelings of isolation. If a child is unable to participate fully in all lessons due to their disability they may begin to lack confidence which will impact upon their self-esteem. The environment in which a child is raised can impact upon their physical development. If for example a child receives an inadequate diet lacking in essential nutrients may develop physically slower than their peers, being significantly smaller than other.
2.2 Any form of prejudice and discrimination can have a severe negative effect throughout a person’s life. Being undervalued by peers can make a person feel isolated and lonely. A child’s confidence and self esteem will become less and less the more they are discriminated against. They will start not wanting to be involved in activities, stop putting their hand up to ask questions. This in turn will affect their learning and ability to interact.
Cultural deprivation means when children are deprived from things what they need. This can include the lack of values and support they get from their parents, which can influence on socialisation skills. It can be argued that due to lack of family structure, social cultural and soft skills pupils are less likely to underachieve. Cultural deprivation is a theory that many working-class children are inadequately socialised and therefore lack the ‘right’ culture appropriate for a successful education. Many people argue that development is vital in the younger years in the child’s life, and the ability to solve problems and apply ideas help in the long-term.
Analyse key social, economic and environmental factors, which may influence development. Love is a key social factor that may influence development. The absence of love in a child’s life can be visible in the child appearance. Children whose hair might has not been washed for a number of days or who are wearing the same filthy clothes everyday will show signs of poor hygiene and not being care for properly. Children who are not loved will find it difficult in the future to make long lasting friendships.
