CYP 3.4 Support children and young people’s health and safety. 1 1.1 Describe the factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services. When planning healthy and safe environments you need to take into account the age, individual needs and abilities of the children and young people involved in the activity. You also need to be aware of any risks to individuals when planning the activity i.e. pregnancy or sensory impairments (loss or degradation of sight/hearing etc). The needs of carers also need to be taken into account where relevant. Look at the environment you are visiting look at the function and purpose of the site and the services offered by the site. The duty of care that we have towards these children and young people so just their general health and well being. What the desired outcome of the environment is what you want the children and young people to learn and understand. Knowing who is accountable and responsible whilst on site. See table below to show Outdoor/Indoor factors. Outdoor: School buses these need to be staffed to allow safe passage to the buses the entering and exiting of the buses by the children. Entry and Exit to school, most schools have an entry and exit system of some sort whether it be a controlled gate or door for people entering the school. Children should always be accepted from or released to a responsible adult or carer of the child. Boundaries of schools should be secure children can’t just wander off, they need to be fenced off and secure, also for playtime and lunchtime these boundaries should be monitored by staff. If an outdoor visit is planned a pre visit check should take place especially due to weather, things can change overnight when we have rain, snow, frost, fog, also ratios of adults to children need to be taken into account and modified if necessary,
