Those who lack education will be ignorant to the ramifcations related to prenatal care. Majority of the time minority women have less formal education as compared to their white counterparts. The lack in education results in a domino like effect in relation to prenatal care. They will be inexperienced about pregnany as a whole including prenatal care and will lack good parenting techniques. The lack in education and experice results in lower levels of trust in medical care.
Chantra Horton ACC281 Accounting Concepts for Health Care Professional The California Sutter Health Approach Mark Strictlett January 30, 2012 An increasing issue within the health care field is the inability to collect debt from the growing population of uninsured or underinsured patients. Health care organizations may be struggling to meet operational margins because the industry has never treated its customers like other retail- oriented sectors of the economy. Hospitals incur sixty billion dollars in bad debt annually because the typically collect only ten to twenty percent of a total uninsured patient balance after service. This is due to a number of reasons, including poor accounting practices, or a lack of patient information.
There is a shortage of nurses, and not enough seats in nursing education programs to allow for everybody who applies to nursing school to be able to pursue a degree in nursing. Also, the cost of a four-year degree in nursing is quite high, which leads many people to opt for the less expensive two-year associate’s degree in nursing (ADN). An associate’s degree education provides the basics of nursing without the time to develop theory or adequate research skills to be able to perform at the same level as registered nurses (RNs) with a bachelor’s degree in nursing science (BSN). For this reason, many advocate for the emphasis of the four-year degree over the two-year degree. A George Washington University study published in Science Daily says, “If health care employers are serious about wanting a more highly educated workforce, they will need to go beyond the current ‘soft policies’ and adopt more forceful measures, such as requirements for degree completion and wages that reward nurses who have worked to get a BSN or advanced degrees” (George Washington University, 2013).
Every day more people die in America than are born. Any increases in population since 1972 have been due to immigration.2 The sociological perils we face are not those of population explosion, but population reduction. The Population Research Institute agrees, and concluded, “Our long-term problem is not too many children, but too few children.”3 The legalization of abortion resulted in a drastic reduction of the number of children in this country. By 1980 there were 6.5 million fewer school-age children in America than just a decade earlier. This required the closing of nine-thousand elementary schools.4 Legalized abortion has resulted in over 46 million fewer taxpayers in America to support the elderly.
This cut off almost a third of Americans because they had little to no high school education. High school played a big role in getting a career started for women which were considered white collared jobs. “but access to secondary schooling was determined by class and ethnicity.” Therefore, poor people had a low chance of applying and being accepted. The entrance requirements to be a teacher requires 4 years of schooling, a degree, and they also added a minimum grade for the state teachers examination. They had tightened their requirements because careers like doctors, lawyers, and engineers did as well.
For an example, Atticus said,” Calpurnia had more education than most colored folks” (Lee 13). Atticus said this, because blacks during the Reconstruction Era always were lacking education compared to the whites, because they were not provided with the essentials. But in this novel, Calpurnia the house maid is more educated than the other blacks, which showed how desperate they needed education. Another example was when Calpurnia brought Jem and Scout to her church, and one of the church member said,” You ain’t got no business bringin’ white chillum here-they got their church, we got our’n. It is our church, ain’t it, Miss Cal” (Lee 163)?
(De Vries in Gen 14 2012, p.21) Many law firms even today are reluctant to make women partners because of the belief that women will ultimately leave to start a family. They are therefore hesitant to invest time into training. (Gen 14 2012, p.21) Statistics show that in 1947 only 2% of all lawyers were women. 1981 saw an increase to 11.4% and in 1991 women lawyers made up only 25% of part time and 54.4% of full time lawyers. Vulnerable Populations - Part II A vulnerable population is a group that has a high incident of health care disparities and difficulties accessing the health care system because of cultural, socioeconomic, language barriers, and educational background. The Hispanic population is the largest and fastest growing minority group in the United States. This group makes up 15% of the United States population and it is predicted that this percentage will double by 2050 (Kaiser Foundation, 2010). In the Hispanic population, the Hispanic or Latino woman, ages 18 to 35 years of age with little to no income, and a high school diploma or less, is apt to possessing a high incidence of health care disparities. Hispanic women are at risk for not receiving the necessary medical care due to the lack of health insurance coverage and knowledge of services available to address their health care needs.
The results of this study came out to be exactly what they were afraid of. It is not a coincidence that the referral rate is higher in physician owned practices. This initiation of therapy by the physician clearly proves that they are in it for simply for the money and not for the health of the patient. 575 million dollars each year is lost in California due to physical therapy compensation costs and “generates approximately $233 million per year in services delivered for economic rather than clinical reasons.” This is hurting everyone involved as well as many who are not involved. Each state as a whole is losing much needed money and it is going down the drain due to these physician owned practices.
