Curiosity in ‘A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings’ and ‘ The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World’ In the past, Thomas Alva Edison, the world famous American inventor, keeps on doing different kinds of experiments to satisfy his own curiosity when he was young. This made him invented lots of devices that greatly influenced the world’s life and at the same time he became one of the most important people in scientific development. From this we can see that curiosity actually has the power to change one’s life. In the two short story, ‘The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World’ by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and ‘ A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings’ by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, we can see that how curiosity of those villagers can lead to a change to the life of the two men no matter they are still alive or after death. The corpse in ‘The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World’ is first seen by some children, the corpse was then moved into the village after other villagers see the children is playing with the corpse. The women are so surprise as they have never seen such a tallest, strongest, most virile, and best built man. But the men think that they are too fussy and they dislike being compared with a dead man. But they later still hold an exclusive funeral for Esteban and even paint the village into gay colors so that Esteban will come back to the village again in the future. An old man with an enormous wings suddenly appeared in Pelayo and Elisenda’s courtyard in ‘ A Very Old Man with An Enormous Wings’. Both the courtyard’s owner and their neighbor don’t treat him nice. The neighbor wish to hear something from the old man to satisfy their curiosity, but the old man spoke nothing. So the neighbors later focus on the woman who has been changed into a spider since she is willing to share her own experience. No one pay attention on the old man anymore and one day he
