Cultural Integration vs. Cultural Diversity Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen! I see many of you today wear quite different kinds of clothes: some wear formal suits, some sportswear, and some neutral clothing. Diverse as they are, whether in American style, European style, Japanese style, Korean style or traditional Chinese style, they all show their owners' enjoyment of involving in this fantastic speech contest. This is just a simple case of cultural integration within cultural diversity. In the field of sending greetings, Chinese may say "Nihao", Japanese may say "Koniqiwa" , Germans may say "Guten Tag" , and French may say "Bonjour"... However, we all mean "Hello" to everybody and the kindness and warmth can be felt immediately when the word is spoken. Actually, this unity provides possibilities for integration and it is the unchanged melody of the world which can serve as the impetus of human cooperation and development. All things on earth are one: continents, oceans and the atmosphere. All living creatures are one. They have a common origin, depend on each other, and are shaped by non-living things. All humans are one. We descend from common ancestors and depend on each other's love, care and responsibility. Cultural unity and integration make our world better. Yet I do not deny that cultural diversity is also important. It is not paradoxical that cultural integration and cultural diversity can go hand in hand. A garden in which all the plants are of the same shape and color lacks in beauty; it is dull and monotonous. The garden that is pleasing to the eye is one in which flowers of every color and fragrance grow side by side. So it is with culture. What if the diversity of culture doesn't exist? There would be no specialties. No uniqueness. No individuality. It's not only monotony, but also a catastrophe. That is to say, it is crucial to
