OSHA Standards for Law Enforcement December 13, 2014 CS204 – Unit 5 Article Summary The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) publish their guidelines and findings regarding workplace health and safety. States are permitted to adopt federal regulations within their own policies, which must be as strict as the federal regulations. In Law enforcement there are many standards that are made to keep them safe while they do their job. Being in law enforcement is already hazardous depending on what position you have within the agency but these OSHA regulations aid them keeping safe and avoiding additional hazards. The regulations are broken up in sections. The job of law enforcement personnel can be dangerous depending on the position you hold, it’s important that there are guidelines in the different aspects of working conditions or hazards you may encounter. As I move forward with my education I want to make sure I keep safety in mind when I choose my career. If I end up working in an office setting and not in the field, I will encounter fewer hazards. If I go into forensic psychology I am told I could be dealing directly with criminals, going into correctional facilities to interview criminals so extra precaution should be taken to make sure I am protecting myself and I am aware of my surroundings. If I end up being a criminalist, I would be using chemicals that could be dangerous so knowing how to avoid the possible hazard is important. I also may collect evidence at crime scenes, which puts me at risk as well. I am not sure where I will end up as of yet but I do like having
