The Cold War is discussed widely around the world and as huge impact on the fight between Republicans and Democrats about communism and anticommunism. When describing the events that occur with anticommunism and McCarthyism. When it comes to discussing anticommunism they think about people who are against a government that ruled by an authority party group. Anticommunism think that what communism wants are false and damaging to the governments. Senator McCarty believed that communism had influenced Americans in a negative way when
The Tsar made many failures as Commander in chief of the army especially at the battle of Tannenburg where the majority of the Russian second army was destroyed which forced the Russian army to retreat. This coupled with other military defeats led to mass desertions towards cities. It also led to many soldiers knowing of the Tsars failures which would have supported the claim for a revolution. The war effort also caused the Zemstva and the Congress of Representatives of Industry and Trade to grow which were used to help stimulate production and provide medical facilities. The government failed to efficiently incorporate these into the war effort which resulted in them becoming a symbol for the shortcomings in the war effort.
Trying to find a communist spy was extremely difficult in the Hollywood career; anyone who identified as communist sympathizers lost their jobs and reputations were ruined. Several had their passports taken, while others were thrown jail for not giving names of other communists. All trials were publicized, and often careers were destroyed based on untrue accusations. All artists brought to trial were blacklisted and for most, this meant the end of promising careers. However, after many years the intensity simmered down and many were able to return to work.
Arthur Miller used his own experiences with McCarthyism to write the play The Crucible. McCarthyism is the intense opposition contouring fear and or suspicion of communism particular in the United States during the 1950’s. This was McCarthy’s own invention to keep him in office. McCarthy accused a lot of people including Miller of being communist. This was very big at the time.
By comparing the periods of the Salem Witch trials in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible and the era of McCarthyism in the film Good Night and Good Luck, I can say that these two periods were essentially the same, only the name of the threat was different. Also I can draw some parallels between the relationship between the Estonians and the Russians during nowadays. First similarity is the spreading of paranoia and terror among the society. In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, people were afraid, that their fellow members of the society were witches. Terror and panic rose in the Salem community as the paranoia and terror about the communists did in the era of McCarthyism during the late 1940s to the late 1950s.
This applied particularly to the Hollywood film industry. McCarthyist’s feared that seditious messages towards the U.S. were being incorporated in films that would be seen all around the world. The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) interviewed 41 people involved in the Hollywood film industry. 10 of those people (Hollywood 10) were jailed for not answering any of their questions. Even though they were simply accused of having left wing views, but it could not be proven.
Although we know there was opposition against Hitler and the Nazi regime it is hard to assess who and how many people took a negative approach to him. Fear of the Gestapo (the secret police) was vast and always present as people were regularly being arrested for crimes of speaking out against Hitler and the Government and sent to the early concentration camps which were later became the ‘death camps’. After the war people were all too keen to announce their distrust and negative feelings towards Hitler as they were ashamed of what he had done, however during his regime many people did not openly oppose him. This makes it hard to know how many people really opposed Hitler. There were different types of opposition towards the Nazi
Kira Argounva one of the main characters in the story and her family suffered by being poor. Kira father had to shut down his textile shop because their people didn’t have enough money to buy stuff; the government made sure everyone didn’t more money than them because the people would be overthrowing the government and receiving a lot of money. The government has spies to make sure they don’t make a lot if so the people would get sent to jail. For example Leo who is Kiras’ boyfriend that tried to make extra money, but got caught by the spies and they broke into his house then sent him to jail for breaking their law. This shows communism in the
People were afraid of the domino theory. They were afraid if South Vietnam fell to communism that the rest of Southeast Asia would follow. With time the American people grew tired of the war. When Charlie was hard to find and there was no end to the war, nobody wanted to be involved anymore. Americans were so tired of the war that the feelings were reflected in the election of Johnson vs Nixon.
When Eisenhower finally did something and sent the 1,000 paratroopers, a lot of the people in America were extremely annoyed, the west and north were angry that it didn't happen sooner and the south were angry that it happened at all, and disowned Eisenhower as a southerner. Eisenhower did not do this to help the blacks, but to enforce law. The causes and consequences of the Little Rock Crisis were on international television and were a huge eye opener for the rest of the world. Because of this, countries were putting pressure on America to stop this from happening. This is possibly the turning point for the black civil rights movement in
