In W.E.B Du Bois' wellknown work, In the Souls of Black Folk, he establishes and concentrates on two notions that explain the typical Black involvement within the United States - the notion of "the veil" and "double-consciousness." What he meant by this was that a black person has the strange sense, a feeling of constantly viewing themselves through someone else's eyes and measuring their character by the tape of society that look on in pleased, disapproval and compassion (Ritzer, 2011, p. 341). This paper will discuss Simmel's notion of the stranger and Du Bois's notion of double consciousness. It will also compare and contrast the two notions. Georg Simmel stressed a interest in social geometry called distance (Ritzer, 2011, p. 273).
Similarly allowed are the negotiation of taboo topics, sensitive issues, and marginal serious content. Humor performs a boundary function on both the internal and external. At the heights of the Civil Rights movement he was a black comedian who would talk about social issues such as needing a prescription for getting medicine but not for getting a
However this did not break the hilarity of the production. Because when they broke character they would usually be adding more comedy. If that was breaking the 4th wall, testing tubing on each other, or audience
Both Williams’ use of black stereotypes and participation in the “blackface” type of acting were considered negative and racist ways of portraying black people during this time period. He charmed his way past barriers that blacks had not been able to overcome, with a smile and comical attitude. Williams opened the door for black actors of his generation as well as for generations to come, in the film and stage industry. During this time, blacks were portrayed as “coons”, a stereotypical depiction what a “negro” was at this time: lazy, dishonest, and corrupt. “Blackface” actors represented the blacks as whites wanted to see them.
Therefore rap came to be the main way of expressing social oppression in black communities. Rappers best represented lives that lacked love ,fewer opportunities, and disgust with law enforcement. Dyson argues his beliefs on rap and its representation “Representing history is within reach of those who seize the opportunity to speak for themselves, to represent their own interest at all cost. Therefore gangsta rap is always involved in controversial representation. Constant attacks on homosexuals and women show the battle between cultural differences in many of gangsta rappers.

The dramatic technique used to represent the chop bone is the use of stage directions. “M.Voice: [amazed] and you shared the boy like… [He is to tactful to say] SHEILA: [calmly, without taking offence or seeing anything wrong with the suggestion]. Consequently, these stage directions help make the mood of the play, and help the viewers see it from the perspective of each character. Survival in these times for the POW’s was an objective that seemed impossible. However they did triumph.
Minstrel shows were meant to make fun of black culture at the time they consisted of comic skits, talent acts, dancing, and music all performed by whites in blackface. They were created to entertain mostly all white audiences. With the civil war newly freeing the African Americans the minstrel shows began to incorporate the zip coon and the urban coon into their shows. The zip coon was a freed black who dressed up in nice clothes as if he was equal to whites. Because of the way the zip coon dressed and spoke as if he was white whites thought he was ignorant and foolish and used that as humor in their minstrel show.
Is the literature separated from the reality? Most literatures reflect the reality of the times when they were written in. Even though “Thank You, Ma’m” (1959) by Langston Hughes is a short story, it also reflects the reality of the times. I think the writer offered some comments for two purposes on the society through the relationship between Mrs. Jones and Roger at that time: to enlighten poor black men. to criticize the radicalism.
Magic Usually has something to do with Othello's heritage. Othello is charged with using magic to woo Desdemona, merely because he is black, and therefore, "pagan." Yet, Othello does have real magic, in the words he uses and the stories he tells. Magic also reappears when Desdemona's handkerchief cannot be found; Othello has too much trust in the symbolism and charm of the handkerchief, which is why the object is so significant to him. Order vs. chaos As Othello begins to abandon reason and language, chaos takes over.
