The experience that has given me the biggest sense of ‘Firebird Pride’ is my time in National Honor Society. I truly enjoy giving back to the community and school that has given me so much. Through working with students my own age to senior citizens to citizens of Dayton in homeless shelters, I have realized how blessed I am to have all of the opportunities that have arisen during my high school career. I am a stronger leader, a better community member, and a more patient and understanding person because of the service I have provided throughout my time in NHS. Through the tutoring hours put into this group, I have formed bonds with students I never would have otherwise been around and the relationships with these kids and their parents have made me feel like I have had my own impact on the community.
I made it a hobby to read law books. I began to understand and like all the jobs and position involved with the criminal justice field. As my release date was coming soon, I started to think about what I was going to do when I got out. Since I had learned a lot about criminal justice, I decide to go along with what I learned. Upon my release from Dodge State Prison, my father sat down with me and lectured me about my future.
173 Reflective Journal. Week 1: Aims of the criminal Justice system This week was essentially an introductory topic and provided me with a basic understanding of the aims and operations of the criminal justice system. I learned that there is a number of different steps within the criminal justice system and the involvement of all the parties involved such as police, judge and jury and the defence. According to John Champion the main purpose of the criminal justice system is to process and prosecute individuals who commit crimes against society and to deal out suitable punishments for these individuals. This is a pivotal part in terms of maintain the functioning of society and to ensure that people don’t go around breaking laws wherever and whenever they want.
Nick Dorsam Mrs. Farthings Grade 12 English 12 Ever since i was younger i seemed to always be involved in the law enforcement, I have always enjoyed helping others. I want to be able to make a difference in my community. Many law enforcement agencies encourage applicants to complete either a 2-year associate's program or a four-year bachelor's program in a criminal justice related area. I would be honored to take this program to be able to help my community and help others. Most larger police departments run their own police academies.
As I learned through my jobs in college, sales were not for me and I enjoyed dealing with people. My job with the Social Security Administration allows me to do all three. As long as I have a genuine concern for each person I speak to and follow the policies SSA sets, both my employer and I are happy with my work. At times people may have problems beyond what I can help them with through my job or even beyond them, which I like to encourage them to think positive or look through for options. My job can negative at times, but encouraging others and trying to give them hope is what motivates
When it come to my personality, in the past I always have put others before myself. I always tried to understand how someone was feeling and what they were thinking. I have always enjoyed listening to people and their personal issues and trying to help them when they are going through hard times. Also I have always been sensitive when it came to my own personal issues. I think that both of these test showed me that I am headed in the right direction in college and I will have no problem succeeding if I keep doing what I have been since day
I was able to go beyond the wall of commodity and experience true friendships. Before the internship, I wasn’t sure of what I wanted to do after high school but as I started to begin to get comfortable at the internship, I realized that my true passion is kids so I want to be a social worker who deals with children. One who puts the child’s life before theirs and loves what they do. Because I was an intern at NCCF, I acquired many skills that I did not know I have as well as abilities and characteristics. I realized that I am extremely passionate about life and helping others.
Over time I was able to see the positive the effects these sessions had on the children and their families. Conducting these sessions has taught me the importance of incorporating the foster parents. I was able to help the parents implement techniques and strategies that resulted positive behavior changes in the children. I have never been more ready or eager to take the next step in my journey and begin my studies in mental health counseling. I believe this program will lead me to a fulfilling career, which will be rewarding in terms of the help I will provide to others.
Community Service is an important activity every person should embrace as they are growing up. Doing community service, a person will find themself and be exposed to the lifestyles of other people, which also tends to make the volunteer more aware of the needs of the less fortunate. Volunteering also contributes to the result of more teenagers being more grateful for everything they have and thus they give more. This Sophomore year I wish I had done more community service than i had done and I regret not following through with the opportunities I was given. Growing up I was taught to give more than I receive.
It was only when I finally entered college that I realized I had always loved working with, and the idea of taking care of children; and what I truly wanted to do with the rest of my life was to teach children with mental disabilities. My career goal, which I have slowly been working towards throughout my 2 years in college, is to become a special education teacher for elementary students. I am currently signed up as double major in elementary and early childhood education and psychology in Queens College. I have taken many pre-requisite classes, as well as several courses specifically designed for elementary education. These courses allowed me to be taught by actual elementary school teachers, who have years of experience with working with children, and the knowledge and advice they were able to pass on truly helped me better understand what I was signing up for as an education major, and helped my improve the way I teach so that I could articulate in a way that would be comprehensible to students of a young age.
