Crime Trends in Atlanta, Georgia 11/20/2011 Crime Trends in Atlanta Georgia The crime trends over the past three years in Atlanta, Georgia show that the crime has been steadily decreasing while there are still high numbers of property crimes. Atlanta has fairly low numbers of violent crimes but it is important for the police force to still concentrate on diminishing murder and rape crimes. The proposed budget will allow the Atlanta Police Department to hire eight officers to work in investigative and administrative positions. Four of the officers will be assigned to concentrate on investigating property crimes and reducing the number of thefts, burglaries and robberies. The other four officers will be split into administrative and investigation roles in the violent crimes unit to help decrease the number of murders, assaults and rapes. The three recommendations that present the need for additional manpower would be targeting gun violence, increasing police visibility and keeping up with the growing population and the average number of officers per square. Below is a table showing the population, crime index and data for the different crimes committed in 2008, 2009 and 2010 which were retrieved from (Melissa Data, 2008), (Melissa Data, 2009) and (Melissa Data, 2010).
