Violent, preventable crimes by minors have long plagued America’s larger cities but have scarcely been punished because of the age of the perpetrators. Protected by a lenient and highly outdated juvenile justice system, violent youth have taken advantage of such benefits and have run rampant in our cities. High profile slayings are quite the norm on the evening news, and every once in a while, disaster strikes and we lose a large number of lives at the hands of young offenders. And sadly, naive America continues to lose more and more lives at the hands of reckless teens and repeat offenders because we choose to give them as many chances as they need so long as they are not legal adults. Unfortunately, we have to lose and destroy more lives because we refuse to
Every conflict has its significant implications on administrative and departmental officer procedures. The mainly problem that always occurring is the physical brutality, which the main goal is to get the police department to enforce and adopt a written policy. However, polices limiting actions will bring most of debate especially from the police officers themselves. “Many feel that their firepower is already too weak to battle the weapons criminals have on the streets, and limiting their legality of gun use will not only endanger them, but the innocent bystanders who must endure the hierarchy gun power creates in the benefit of criminals.” (Bouza, Anthony. 1990) It’s necessary to ask help from the superior officers so that a tolerance of brutality will not establish.
Violent Crimes and Theories Violent crimes are a major concern for United States citizens. Although there has been a decrease in violent crime, it is still a huge problem nationwide that needs to be under more control. What causes a person to become criminal is a question that many theorists would love to fully understand. In the past, criminologists believed that people were simply born criminals. Today, there are several theories on why people commit crimes.
Looking at what could help the numbers decrease could be because repeat offenders are receiving harsher punishments, or companies increasing their security with newer technology. As mentioned before some crimes do not get reported to the police, which will show a decrease in crime. No one will ever accurately predict crime rates there are many factors to consider for the rise and fall of crime such as social status, poverty levels, employment, and race. We need not focus so much on the numbers, and focus more on the solution. Reference Schmalleger, F. (2012).
City Demographics and Crime Profile Heide M. Banks, Shayla Blair, Neil Lammons, Daniel Stevens, Maria Torres AJS/542 April 14, 2014 Marcela Morales Abstract The effects of crime are serious for a society. Unfortunately, most cities and towns in the United States experience some form of illicit behavior by their citizens. Information concerning the number of vandalisms, burglaries, assaults, and murders of an area can sway prospective buyers from purchasing homes or businesses from settling in a select community. Some believe that urban areas struggle with higher crime rates than suburban areas. Historically, crowded, low-income neighborhoods were thought of as crime capitals.
If the criminal justice system does not get recidivism under control, prisons will continue to grow. I do believe additional changes can be made in response to overcrowding prisons. Get tough legislations need to be abolished. There is no evidence that get tough legislations deter individuals from committing crime. This is partly because many individuals lack the legal knowledge to know the consequences
If the police were doing their job properly, the figures should be decreasing not increasing. They would not be seizing more illegal stills than before. Despite the consequences, Americans enjoyed drinking and were willing to take the risk of arrest to carry on doing something they had previously done with no punishment. The number of people breaking the law made it increasingly difficult for the police to do their job effectively and catch the law-breakers. The figures in both
I can almost guarantee you that without awareness of this issue these numbers will continue to rise. So believe me when I say it can wait. Figure 2: This figure above also provided exceptional facts to the risks teens and young drivers are subject to when stepping behind the wheel of a motor vehicle with a cell phone. I don’t want to use these facts to scare people but to inform them that anything can happen to anyone and that no one is invincible. These small details may seem boring but if this paper can help change someone’s mind to stop using the phone while driving imagine how many lives alone one person can
We need officers to step up and do a better job of stopping these crimes because it’s tearing our city apart. Officers do a great job of being there to give out parking tickets but very seldom are around when homicide crimes are in action. If we increase the number of officers in the city we would be able to scatter around the city more and be able to react to action quicker. The city could get a federal grant to hire more officers and the Detroit citizens need more jobs available so
Predictive Policing Predictive Policing is one of a range of tools using better data, more finely crunched, to predict crime. They seem to promise better law-enforcement. Crime is one of the hardest aspects to have a first responder appear unless they are in the right place at the right time. Police departments around the world are taking on a new strategy to help them enforce the law, reach respondents and ultimately lessen the crime wave in known areas. Even though some fear that this type of system may ultimately bring on automation to police forces and lose the human interaction, others feel it is great effort to protect communities.
