Crime Data Comparison Elizabeth Socolofsky CJA/314 January 26, 2013 According to, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Department the Uniformed Crime Report for 2009 shows that in the state of New Jersey metropolitan statistic shows the population of New Jersey at 8,707,739. The total of reported violent crimes was 27,112 and the estimated number of violent crimes were 27,121 (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2010). Violent crimes are composed into several offenses, including forcible rape, murder, non-negligent manslaughter, robbery, and aggravated assault. According to the UCR program violent crimes are defined as any offense in which involves force or the threat of force (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2010). Assault is the most likely form of violent crime in America. Violent crimes have tiers or levels of degree, crimes of assault can lead to threats or use of force or violence against another person (Violent Crime, 2011). Assault can range from a simple assault to aggravated assault in which the assaults could turn into battery or forcible rape where there is physical contact with the victim In 2009 the report showed that in New Jersey there was a total of 1,041 reported cases of forcible rapes and an estimated 1,041 (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2010), and those same numbers were also statewide. A forcible rape or sexual assault is a violent crime in which the act is non-consensual sexual intercourse forced on a person. The numbers show that the cases of rape had been reported, proving that there were more cases of violent crimes in which forcible rape is included. In the state of Florida the population is 17,451,538 of which are native Floridians and where a violent crime is committed every four minutes and 38 seconds (Florida Crime Clock, 2011).
