The Deadly Impact of Fear People may think that their greatest fear is a ferocious animal, lightning speed, terrifying heights, or a venomous insect but the greatest fear of all is fear itself. When placed in an unfamiliar setting over an extended period of time, like the boys in William Golding’s novel The Lord of the Flies, fear escalates as time goes on. This is illustrated when the boys were unable to kill a pig when they had the right opportunity, to then brutally killing a pig as time progressed. To finally, killing one of their own. Lord of the Flies is the perfect example of how fear is a deadly driving force.
This monster is by far the strongest of the three and shows attributes of a monster I face in my daily life, the fear of embarrassment. In the epic, the dragon is a creature who is angered by the fact that someone had stolen a treasure from the treasure trove it was guarding. If you want to get to the treasure the monster would have to be defeated. The two are similar in the sense that the fear of embarrassment keeps you away from getting what I want and the dragon was the obstacle in the way of the treasure and “fame” (Beowulf 610). This monster is ferocious and will leave you saying, “I wish I had”.
Are all monsters bad? In the Frankenstein novel written by Shelley, this monster wants is to be your friend. OK so that may sound really strange, but it’s true. Frankenstein’s Creation was badly misunderstood by every person he came in contact with. This Creation was seen as a big scary monster that would kill you if he even laid eyes on you.
The soldiers were often infested with lice. “Lice were a never-ending problem, breeding in the seams of filthy clothing and causing men to itch unceasingly (Duffy).” The soldiers also had to deal with rats that would often carry and spread disease and infection. The rats were larger than the typical rat and often ran free throughout the trenches. “Men, exasperated and afraid of these rats (which would even scamper across their faces in the dark), would attempt to rid the trenches of them by various methods: gunfire, with the bayonet, and even by clubbing them to death (Duffy).” Another problem that soldiers faced was trench foot. This resulted from the foot being left in water, which often accumulated at the bottom of the trenches, for long amounts of time and could sometimes cause the skin to fall right off the bone.
Therefore, the snake can represent Delia’s protector, sin, death, or devil but it most certainly is a mirrored reflection of Sykes. Sykes routinely shows his lack of respect for Delia. One morning Delia, sorting laundry and wondering where Sykes has gone with her horse, becomes paralyzed by fear when suddenly something “long, round, limp, and black falls upon her shoulders and slithers to the floor beside her.” Again Delia is reminded of what a malicious man Sykes can be. He uses a bullwhip to scare her; she believes it is a snake. Delia
Indiana Bats are a rare species and is listed on the Ohio state and federal endangered list. They were placed on the federal list in 1967 due to people disturbing hibernating bats in caves and the killing large numbers of bat. Also the commercialization of caves, loss of summer habitat, pesticides, and the disease white-nose syndrome (US fish and wildlife service, 2013). Some animals cannot adapt to change because of that they slowly die away as to their habitat humans gets smaller and more people mess around the caves. The extinction of animals will cause more of what they eat this can affect humans by more humans being bite by mosquitoes.
Sow bugs also prefer dark, damp, covered places because it keeps them hidden from most of their enemies, according to Pill Bug Biology: A Spider’s Spinach, But a Biologist’s Delight. The overall class observation
You will not believe the conditions I have been living in. They are somewhat cruel, disgusting, dreadful and fearful. Something even I am to disturbed to look at is the rat infestation, mom you know how much I hate rats, well now I basically live with them, like they’re my pets. Millions of rats would gorge themselves on human remains. Other pests that are available here are frogs, they’re found in shell holes and in the base of our trenches.
I do not intend to hurt you; listen to me” (Shelley 102). Many times when and individual is attacked rather verbally, or physically, eventually they will retaliate in some form or another appealing to be the very same monster that bullied them. Yes, it is an incivilous act, yet so many bullies go unnoticed. In the Frankenstein situation, he became what they wanted, which was an enraged killer. We as humans have a choice in the matter.
Freddy and Jason are macabre, but because they are caricatures, those stories lack sustained fear factor. A story featuring a seemingly normal individual serially killing women and harvesting their skin is a tale that will chill you for weeks. This is that type of story. It is a fear inducing, eye opening horror tale that will choke a reader because of its realness, its absolute ability to occur in everyday life. The ending was brilliant.
