Page 1 Carlee Chapko Monday, September 5, 2011 Creative Writing Emily, Jill, and Marisah have been best friends since kindergarten at the Hoosic Valley Central School in Schaghticoke, New York and are now seniors in high school. The three girls are now looking to just have fun before they leave for college. Emily is a varsity basketball player at Hoosic Valley High School hoping to get a full basketball scholarship to play at the colligate level. Emily is 6 feet tall with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. Jill is a beautiful, brilliant brunette who is planning on attending Harvard Law School on a full academic scholarship. Emily, Jill, and Marisah arrived at the party being held at a beautiful brick house with white shutters on Friends Lake. The girls liked to refer to the house as a home at the lake with friends. As they walked up to the front door they were greeted by all their classmates who were very excited and surprised to see them because it was out of character for these three girls to attend a party. One of their classmates named Alayna said, “Can’t you guys get in a lot of trouble if you get caught at this party?” Jill responded, “Yes, but we’re not going to get caught.” The owner of the house, who was the girls good friend Anthony, brought them over to the beer keg and poured them each a cup of beer. Emily looked at Jill and said, “You’re not going to drink are you?” Jill responded, “No, I am just going to carry around this cup so I can look cool.” Emily believed that Jill was telling the truth. The three girls went there separate way but made a plan to meet in the front of the house at exactly midnight. All three girls were mingling with their classmates and really enjoying the party. It impacted their marriage to a point of disrepair. Emily’s parent stayed together but are both physically and mentally exhausted. They spent every possible moment at Emily’s bedside. Two and a half years after the car accident, Emily continues in a coma state but has been relocated from the hospital to a nursing home that specializes in head injury. Emily is considered to be in a vegetative state. Emily appears to be in no discomfort but no one can tell you if she recognizes anyone she once knew. Jill has managed to control her depression with medicine and therapy. She attends college and attends classes on a regular basis and holds a part-time job. A day will never pass without Jill thinking that had she made a different choice that night her life would be so different. Although the car accident has sadden Jill, she continues to convince herself that Emily would want nothing more for her than to Page 6 get a college education and live the life of her dreams. She will always struggle with some of the things she experiences in life, but she will never take life for granite and will always cherish each day.
