Heath Field Goal Frenzy The setting was the day after Thanksgiving in central Ohio in 2001. While most people were enjoying the coziness of their homes, there were twenty two men doing battle for the right to advance. On this very chilly November night, with patches of fog and a light mist pouring from the sky, seven thousand fans were glued to the edge of their seats waiting to learn the destiny of these battle tested teens. Even with the sea of people attending the game, an eerie silence still lingered over the entire stadium. For everyone was awaiting the outcome of the last second field goal. Before the Arrow nation realized, the clock was winding down and the shutout had turned into a nail biter. With the score now tied at thirteen and the Cougars driving late in the fourth quarter, the Arrows were in desperate need of a big play. Their prayers were answered when with under a minute to go the ball hit the ground, only to be pounced on by the strong safety from Tecumseh. The crowd erupted in a simultaneous roar. After trailing the entire game, the ball was finally in their court, but with minimal time on the clock. On the very next play it was as if god had given the running back for Tecumseh a set of wings. He flew down the sidelines deep into Cougar territory. The stage was now set. With five ticks on the clock remaining, the once hopeless Arrows lined up for the game winning thirty three yard field goal. The previously hysterical fans were now mesmerized on the left foot one man. Every single spectator in the stadium scooted to the edge of their seats. The whole season came down to this. When the ball was snapped and the southpaw kicker booted the ball through the air, everyone on the Arrows side could do nothing but jump for joy. The clock struck zero and the kick split the
