By convincing Hindenburg that there was a large communist threat the country was put into a state of emergency and, with Hindenburg’s backing, Hitler was allowed to pass decrees to govern Germany anyway he liked, with the financial backing of krupp and bosch etc, which in this case is fortunate for the question at hand. Consequently this is why I believe it was the most important event to dictatorship because it was the “spark” that allowed any other event to happen and without it democracy may have just struggled on. One of these events was the election in 1933. Now Hitler had the power to convince Hindenburg to allow him
This was necessary because the sentence was so inadequate that it needed to be changed for Thomas and his family in order to achieve justice as well as to deter acts of alcohol fuelled violence by emphasising to society that this behaviour is no longer acceptable. The fact that the case was appealed highlights that the law is responsive to meeting society’s needs, but this raises the question why should the public have to ‘outcry’ before justice is achieved for victims. The appeal meant that Thomas’s family had to relive the whole night again therefore it wasn’t in their best interests as instead of saying goodbye and remembering Thomas they had to relive the entire case and events to get an
Doing this is important to a modern audience as the play includes hints about future events that are unknown to the characters, so the hints are meant for the modern audience as they have prior knowledge that the characters do not have. This is device is known as a dramatic device, which is where the audience knows things that the characters in the play do not. Examples of this occurring are when Mr Birling says “Germans don’t want war” near the time of WW1, and when he says the Titanic is unsinkable. This is important as this gives the audience certain feelings such as anger, and to show Mr Birling’s ignorance towards other people. Priestley’s aim to writing this play is to convey the message that we have a responsibility for each other, and what could happen if we are ignorant about ourselves and that we are “a part of one body” as the Inspector says in his closing speech giving
In the play Romeo and Juliet, many conflicts had made the play very interesting and kept your attention. Romeo and Juliet had fallen in love but then found out that their families don't like each other. They both ended up dying. I feel as if Friar Lawrence was most responsible for the outcome in Romeo and Juliet because he married them and gave Juliet the potion. Many other things would have happened if Friar did not get involved.
Shakespeare would not show Banquo warning Macbeth if he did not want the audience to know that Banquo realizes Macbeth may be thinking about something evil. In this way, the quote helps the audience understand the relationship between Banquo and Macbeth. This helps the plot develop because it then makes more of an impact on the audience when Macbeth orders Banquo's death. This quote definitely helps the audience discover what Banquo's character acts like in regards to Macbeth. The quote shows how Banquo cares about Macbeth, as he warns him about the prophecies.
He discusses how, starting in the 1920s, he found himself growing increasingly bored with the theater, which he had loved all his life. The plays were competent enough, but they did not affect him on a personal level, the way that good art should. At length, Wilder traced the problem to the rise of the middle class in the nineteenth century. His explanation went like this: the middle class, then a new social phenomenon, did not want the sharp discomfort that art can cause when it makes one face reality and instead supported art that was soothing. One result was that writers began producing characters as broad types, which audiences could then distance themselves from, telling themselves that the concerns of the character on the stage were nothing like the ones they faced themselves.
April 15, 2013 OTHELLO Extra Credit Response According to Aristotle’s six elements of drama, Othello was the tragic hero whose weakness for having faith in those who he thinks tell the truth (Iago) allows him to be manipulated and blinded his jealousy that Iago created as an illusion. This downfall of his led to the death of Desdemona. Othello’s lack for evidence, such as proof of the handkerchief, allowed tragedy to occur in the play. Seeing the play Othello live rather than reading it from a book allowed me to understand the writing and meaning of Shakespeare. Watching Othello, I already knew the underlined themes and symbolism, etc.
Another example of how Bruno was avoiding thinking about what was happening around him was when he said, “I expect we’ll have to wait here till it eases off and then I’ll get to go home” (Boyne, page 212). He was ignoring the reality, the facts, instead he is thinking ahead, about going home. This book has definitely showed me, we need to be more aware of the circumstances we are in. Innocence leads to tragedy. Before I read your book I often thought of the cruelty of the WWII and I could hardly imagined the world with people not protesting
"Soliloquy” is used for character revelation, by which the dramatist conveys the secret thoughts and/or intentions of the character, to the audience or the reader of the drama, but preserves their secrecy from the other characters of that drama. Shakespeare's soliloquies are projected for the same. In the first soliloquy, Hamlet expresses his pain for his father’s death and his unhappiness towards his mother marrying his uncle, within such a short time of his father’s death. Hamlet expresses his bitter feelings against the disloyalty of his own mother in particular and womanhood in general. he expresses his sourness against the treachery of his uncle.
During that time, it was believed that the death of a King would upset the natural balance of order and society. The downfall of a king or the death of a king and the theme of suicide, would have made a dramatic impact on the Shakespearean audience, compared to a modern day audience ,who were used to a diet of violence in tragic plays. The shock value of these themes would have produced the required effect that Shakespeare intended. King Lear is a powerful King at the beginning of the play, who would, in my opinion, would have found it hard to be humble and to be able to achieve humility without having lost his power, supporters, family and material wealth. When he asks his daughters
