Cram school culture Nowadays, under Taiwanese education system, students have no choice but to study hard in order to get into the top schools. Therefore, cram schools spring up and students swarm there, also, I am no exception. During three years of my senior high school, I had joined several cram schools. At that period of time, I thought it was the best way for me to ensure that I could get into top schools. However, after I departed from this cram school culture, I have doubted whether the results are good in the aspects of education, economy, and personality. First, I doubted whether students can really absorb the knowledge they learn in the cram schools. The reason why students go to cram schools is that they consider the teachers there are more experienced, which means that the teachers there know the system of entrance exam so well that they can give their students good advises and guide them to the great results, than the ones in students’ schools. Students think that those teachers in cram schools can easily pick up the points for them, and they just need to follow what those teachers teach. However, students rely on cram schools and they don’t study hard in class when they go to school, which makes students fail on learning the basics of the subjects. Instead, they just keep cramming those points. But, when they face the questions that differ from the normal ones in an exam, they may not be flexible to answer them. So, I think this kind of teaching make students lack of the comprehension of subjects. Second, I doubted whether it is a waste of time or not. Actually, in my own experience, the most talented students in my junior and senior high schools did not go to cram schools, but they still got good grades on exams.
