Wart is a very good person, but his actions always seem to go overlooked by everyone. One prime example of this is when Kay brought the griffin head and Wart brought Wat as a reward for saving the trapped prisoners. Wat was a mad man but Wart believed that Merlyn could have cured him. Wart obviously has the right intentions and put the well being of others his top priority. When the boys come back home, everyone seems disgusted to see Wat back but everyone seems proud of Kay especially Sir Ector.
We see courage through the deeds of firemen, police officers, doctors, and soldiers. We often don’t look at the minuscule deeds of everyday life. Everyone has the opportunity to be courageous but what really matters is whether or not that person takes the opportunity. Courage is the ability to take a stand for something you believe in. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the characters Jem, Scout, and Atticus exhibit courage numerous times throughout the story.
To Kill a Mockingbird – Courage To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a heroic tale of leadership and courage. Courage is the ability and willingness to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. According to Atticus Finch, “Courage is not a man with a gun in his hand. It’s knowing you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.” (Lee, 149).
Courage is a very important quality that many people have and try to achieve. Real courage is not only shown when a man has a gun on his hand but when you stand up to what is wrong and attempt to make it right even if there are consequences. In the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, Atticus, Tom Robinson and Boo Radley show real courage in their own way even though they know what the aftermath may look like. They face their fears for the good of themselves and others. As I have stated, real courage is when you fight for what is right regardless of whether you win or lose.
Also his experience from Mrs. Dubose, and from Boo Radley bring about many changes for Jem. “I always thought Maycomb folks were the best folks in the world, least that’s what they up in the town of Maycomb. But the trial of Tom Robinson made him think that this wasn’t true. Jem believed that no one in the town did anything to help Tom. He saw how racist the town was.
Her use of “good” is bias since she states he is not common. In the end, the grandmother’s classification of “good man” states that “good” doesn’t imply “moral” or “courteous”. For her, a man is a “good man” if his values are coordinated with her own. Red Sammy is “good” because he trusts people at random and greatly remembers more innocent times with which the grandmother also remembers. The Misfit is “good” because she believes he wouldn’t shoot a lady.
This idea can be seen through Atticus Finch extremely well. He grew up in an overly prejudice time, yet all he tries to do is help people, and tries to teach his children to do the same thing. For instance, on page 30, he is trying to teach Scout not to judge people because she didn’t always know the other person view of things, or their side of the story. “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” -Atticus Finch. Even with her Father’s prompting she doesn’t seem to understand, as she clearly has prejudice towards people like the Ewells and Cuninghams just for being poor, or different than her.
Scripted Pages 201-206 Scout: I had a feeling tat i shouldn’t be here listening to this sinful man who had mixed children and didn’t care who knew it, but he was Fascinating.I had never encountered a being who delicately penetrated fraud against himself. But why had he entrusted us with his deepest secret? I asked him why. Mr. Raymond: “Because you're children and you can understand it,” he said, “and because I heard that one-” Mr. Raymond:”Thing’s haven’t caught up with that one’s instinct yet. Let him get a little older and he won’t get sick and cry.
Dubose is a perfect example of somebody who possessed courage and somebody that came out of their comfort zone. She was an old, wicked women who was addicted to morphine. She knew she was going to die when Dr. Reynolds said she only had a few months left. Hearing this Mrs. Dubose said that their was still one thing out of order which tells the reader she wanted to do something before she died. Given the news that she was going to die, Mrs. Dubose was not scared, instead she accepted it and stayed calm.
These two stories, although very different content, have the same frame. Both heroes, although brave and heroic in their own ways, must rely on others in order to succeed. “Booze”, by Pinckney Benedict is a perfect example of a basic quest myth. While this story does not contain the glory, and the heroism as Beowulf, the protagonist carries out the responsibilities of a quest myth hero. The protagonist must find the courage to vanquish a beast that has burdened him since he was a young boy.
