Having Courage By Kayla Fuller College Composition Cm107 Unit 3 Courage is having the ability to confront your fear. Courage is finding the strength to show bravery. Crossing the threshold is going past the point of your known fear to show your braveness. MSG Gary Gordon and SFC Randy Shughart are two historical figures that deserved the Medal of Honor and should be remembered for their courage, loyalty to the U.S Army and fellow soldiers, and admired for their honor because MSG Gary Gordon and SFC Randy Shughart gave their lives on October 3, 1993 to help save a fellow soldier, CW3 Michael Durant (pilot) in Task Force Ranger in Mogadishu, Somalia. Gordon and Shughart were courageous in showing their bravery because they went beyond the call of duty, volunteering themselves to be inserted to protect four other soldiers in a crash site with a growing number of enemies closing in on them with only being equipped with their sniper rifles and side arms. (2011) Shughart showed their loyalty to the U.S. Army and fellow soldiers that day because of their personal devotion to take control of the crash site by themselves showing they have faith to their country by standing up to fight off the enemies that were after the U.S Army. (2003) MSG Gary Gordon and SFC Randy Shughart showed honor by asking the operation commander three different times to be inserted to the second crash site to help secure the site from enemies and to help save the lives of the four passengers in the helicopter. (2006) MSG Gary Gordon and SFC Randy Shughart crossed the threshold in their line of duty because they asked the commander to be inserted to the crash, they were not told to go to the crash site by the commander. MSG Gary Gordon and SFC Randy Shughart did not give up after the first time the commander said not to go to the crash site; they keep asking the commander for permission
