• Educational Requirements-The educational requirements for a licensed professional counselor in North Carolina consists of showing documented official transcripts from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Graduate course work must be in nine areas of study with 3semester hours or 5 quarter hours per course area of study. The areas are, orientation to the counseling profession, research, career, vocational, lifestyle development, human growth and development, social and cultural foundations, counseling theories and techniques, appraisal, group work, and practicum/internship. • Examination Requirements- The applicant can take the National Counseling Examination (NCE), the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Examination (NCMHCE), or the Counselor Rehabilitation…show more content…
2000 hours must be direct counseling and these hours cannot be applied from a Master Level Practicum or Internship. The Internship hours must not be less than 8 hours per week but no more than 40 hours per week. You must have 100 hours of clinical supervision, 75 hours are required to be individual and you must have a minimum of 1 hour clinical supervision for every 40 hours of professional practice. The supervision shall be based on direct (live) observation, co-therapy, audio and video recordings, and live supervision.
