376016 Why do people have cosmetic surgery and do the benefits outweigh the risks? Introduction Cosmetic surgery is known to be booming. Since cosmetic surgery has provided faster healing and lower pain levels, more and more people tend to try out this procedure. It also attracts patients of various age group and the treatments are becoming cumulatively popular in young people. Before the nineteenth century, cosmetic surgery was carried out to treat the disease’s symptoms and correct anomalies such as disfigured noses. Angelika Taschen (2005) announced that the annual growth appearance for surgical treatment has been rising significantly all over the world, for instance, in Unites States. In 1997, 2.1 million operations were successfully implemented. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery carried out a report and showed that these operations reached to 11.8 million in 2004. The purpose of review, is to investigate the cosmetic surgery, and to answer the question of why do people have cosmetic surgery and do the benefits outweigh the risks. The literature review will show the effect of benefits and risks as below. To this day, majority of people have changed their attitudes over cosmetic surgery. Cynthia Dennison Haines (2005) pointed that as the surgical techniques are becoming more advanced and these can help the patients more natural appearance and recovery. Also most people are getting and accepting the cosmetic surgery even though they know the surgical procedure will carry out some risks. In addition, another reason is that celebrities do not want to show any flaws on their faces and try to engage their viewers’ attention.
