Unit 4 – children and play D1: Identify THREE (3) different settings where children might play. Three different settings were children might play are a local park, pre-school setting or a library. D2: State the typical age range and the stage of play of the children who might play in the setting. A local park: 3-6 years. Children at the lower end of the age range are likely to be at the associative play stage which means that they are more likely to play in a group but still be engaging in there on entertainment for example a group of children may be playing in the sand tray but still building their own sand castles.
In Annie Dillard’s essay “The Chase,” the writer begins the essay by informing the reader that as a child she was received willingly to participate in games with the boys of her neighborhood. In the summer time, they would play baseball and football. In the wintertime, the game they choose to play was throwing snowballs at vehicles as they drove by. The neighborhood boys, Mikey and Peter Fahey, Chickie McBride, Billy Paul, Mackie Kean and Dillard decided to play that game on a snowy winter morning after Christmas. The children waited with anticipation as a black Buick proceeds towards them.
He enlightens the reader with his idea when he says, “[…] I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye […] and nobody’s around – nobody big […] except me. And I’m standing on the edge of some crazy cliff […] I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff,” (173). Although this may portray Caufield’s idea of how he wants to spend his life, it also symbolizes his need for innocence. The field of rye represents childhood and the innocence that comes with it, while falling off of the cliff symbolizes maturity and learning the hardships of life. This is why Holden wants to keep the children from falling – or growing up – to secure their innocence.
After the long 12 hour drive I can feel the suspense and and thrill all around me. Looking out the window and seeing the big mountains and the big sign that says “Welcome to Frontier Ranch!” made me feel like I was supposed to be there. As I patiently wait on the bus with my friends I can not help but get a feeling of pure excitement that my life is going to change. The bus starts moving downhill towards the camp and all I can see is a huge
Therefore moving all activities inside which caused parents to watch their children become couch potatoes. The parents took action and decided to make a skate park 10 miles from their community and allow their children to be outside again. When parents leave their kids alone for a minute anything can happen. Paton mentioned in his article that (Paton, 2012) “Research by the charity the National Children’s Bureau showed that under 15 are now less likely to enjoy outdoor play than in previous generations. It was revealed
Kids from both queens and Brooklyn compete, but it’s not just a competition to them it’s a way to keep them busy and out of trouble. A lot of these children live in a lower class neighborhood and they can’t afford other extra curricular activities in which this dance class is free. But the kids seem to really enjoy it, they call it fun. Even though it’s a lot of hard work and dedication. But this movie isn’t just about a dance competition, it’s about life.
A Guide to The Peace Corps: the Ins and Outs of The Corps Growing up, I played for countless hours in my backyard. Soccer, tag, and hide-and-go-seek were the usual games, but sometimes I would entertain myself by chasing the rabbits and squirrels that shared the backyard with me. I would sneak up on them as quietly as a seven-year-old could and try to catch them. It never happened of course, and the little critters would usually scamper under the chain link fence at the back of the yard and into the woods beyond. As a child, I always wondered what was on the other side of the fence.
It was too nice to stay inside. There wasn’t a lot to do around our neighborhood growing up. A bunch of the neighborhood kids would always gather around on the dirt hills, and watch the two or three show offs that always would jump their bikes on the jumps. Everyone was standing out there as usual gossiping, listening to the kids who would always talk about how they could do
Back in Twains time kids would run around outside and play cowboys and Indians. The way kids entertain themselves has greatly changed. We see this change when Huck goes and plays with his friends. He started a gang called the ‘Tom Sawyer Gang” and they’d pretend that they were a group of robbers looking for treasure. Todays kids are not going outside as much, are overweight and unhealthy in part because instead of going outside and playing they much rather sit inside and play online games with their friends.
Kids should always have fun, but competition is what makes it fun. Now children receive participation trophies just so they are not left out. I remember when I was younger and I played baseball my dad would help coach the team. He would always yell at me and tell me to try harder. In my childish mind then I would get frustrated because I thought I was giving it my all.
