E1 One of the practitioner’s roles in meeting children’s learning needs could be to understand and work with other practitioners and staff. This can help to provide different learning opportunities to individual children because each child is unique as practitioners should take into consideration all diverse learning needs, for example there are many activities that could be changed to suit individual children. The practitioners’ role would therefore be to plan and resource an environment that is challenging and helps children learn in many different areas of their learning. The role of the practitioner in supporting the learning needs of children is they have to complete regular assessments on their development and learning to identify their progress and plan their next steps to help the children achieve further. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), (2012) states that the role of the practitioner is crucial in observing and reflecting on children’s spontaneous play, building on this by planning and providing a challenging environment which supports specific areas of children’s learning and extends and develops children’s language and communication in their play.
These observations should cover all areas which are Physical development, Communication and language, Literacy, Personal, social and education, Maths, Art and design and Understanding the world. Once observations have been made, key persons should then plan for each individual child with the view of building on skills and knowledge the child already has. There are lots of ways to assess a child, these include watching a child and taking notes, taking photos of what a child is playing or something they have made, keeping pieces of work and listening to the children. Following assessments made on the children, staff should then follow the settings planning guidelines, this can be done in a variety of ways depending on what suit’s the setting and the children. For example after doing our observations we then have a planning sheet for each day of the week.

There is structured and unstructured play. Adults often direct structured play and there are rules etc. In unstructured play children choose the activity and make their own rules.
Children are also encouraged help one another. They are taught to ask for help from another child before coming to a teacher. I plan activities that require cooperation and group work so that children will work together to solve problems and be attentive to other’s needs. The children make our room a better place by being empathetic and helpful to others. In my program I want children to be independent and make positive choices.
Everyone is different and have each have individual strengths and weaknesses an advantage of working in a team is individual staff weaknesses are balanced by other team member’s strengths. Another advantage of working as a team is all the skills by all members are used to conclude the best solutions. Different professions have different knowledge of children and this knowledge is shared in a multi agency team for the benefit of the family and children. Child care workers work as a team with agencies such as Social Services; they co-operate and use this service if the welfare of the child is in any form of danger. Professionals working in a multi-agency team must work in a holistic way with children and their families with other agencies and other professionals.
