People are unique in their own ways and have their own thoughts and ideas. However, society makes the majority of people conform to its norm, when in fact, it is better to express oneself boldly and face criticism because confidence in one’s own beliefs eventually leads to acceptance. A person is considered unique when they stick out of society’s norms. But when they express it openly with confidence, it catches peoples’ attention. For example, Lady Gaga debuted in 2008 with 2 hits: Poker Face, and Just Dance. Her music was popular because of its catchiness, but her bizarre and unique music videos shocked people. People also questioned her absolutely absurd sense of fashion. However in 2010 she came out with a song called “Born this way”, which told people that she is aware of the fact that she’s weird, and she’s okay with it. In her song, she sings “I’m beautiful in my way, ‘Cause God makes no mistakes, I’m on the right track, baby I was born this way”. She is trying to convey the message that the confidence to show one’s true colors is what truly defines a person, rather that the trait itself. And due to the highly influential and uplifting nature of the song, it quickly became the fastest selling song on Itunes in less 5 hours after its release, placing #1 on Billboard’s top 200 chart within the first week. The song was also featured in the musical television series, Glee, which is about a school’s glee club expressing their talents in hopes of gaining acceptance and renown.
