Conflict, by definition, is a state of disagreement caused by an actual or percieved difference in values and opinions between at least two people or groups: with the result of this often being tension and negative feelings between those in dispute. A conflict is not necessarily violent as it can be as mild a disagreement with strong words, however, it can escalate and may involve the use of force, armed conflict, or war. The geographical impact can vary greatly depending on the type of conflict. It may result in an unwanted development such as the Roos Wind Farm, or territorial gains and extreme supression of another nation as exemplified by the conflict between Palestine and Israel.

Areas affected by conflict can face severe social reprecussions. In the region of Darfur in West Sudan, conflict has been inevitable due to it not only being a peripheral location bordering Chad, Libya and the C.A.R, but it is also home to an ethnic mix that have tense relations with one another: subsistence farmers of African heritage and normadic hearders of Arab heritage. The conflict in Darfur began in 2003 when rebel groups began attacking government targets, saying that their communities were being discriminated against in favour of the Arab population. This however, may be true because the government in Khatoum is dominated by those of Arab heritage and have tended to side with the Arab nomadic   hearders when conflict has arisen between them and the African subsistance farms. This conflict has since spread over into the neighboring Chad and the C.A.R, involving the Arab Janjaweed militia, Chad rebels, Darfur rebels and C.A.R rebels. As a result of this conflict, serious social implications have arisen. Over 2.7m people have been displaced (2.5m internally and 200,000 in Chad) with many having to relocate to   camps set up around destroyed towns, and here in these camps are where most deaths have occurred due to lack of sanitation and little food and water, and the UN...
