SYMPOSIUM REPORT International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services (ETTLIS) December 18‐20, 2008: An Overview An International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services, ETTLIS‐2008 was organized by the Learning Resource Centre of Jaypee Institute of Information Technology University, NOIDA‐UP and Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi in technical collaboration with the Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science, SALIS‐DELHI‐NCR at JIITU‐NOIDA‐UP during December 18 to 20, 2008. INAUGURATION Thy symposium got off with the inaugural session with the chief guest Dr. SC Khuntia, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Human Resource Development, and Prof. JP Gupta, Vice Chancellor, Dr. John Lake from the United Kingdom and Prof. Bani Singh, Chairman, LRC Advisory Committee present on the dais. The Chief Guest appreciated the efforts made by the Learning Resource Centre in collecting the professionals under one roof from various parts of the world including India for an in depth interaction and bringing out am excellent volume of papers for discussion during the course of the symposium. The speakers expressed their concern about the decreasing number of readers in the libraries. The keynote address was presented by John Lake, Chairperson, Public Library Section and Secretary of the Division for libraries serving the general public IFLA and Librarian, Barbien Library, City of London, United Kingdom. AIM OF THE SYMPOSIUM The aim of the symposium was to bring researchers, academicians, business community and research scholars on a common platform to share their experiences, innovative ideas and research findings about
