Key Concepts of Organizational Design Nora Stephens University of Phoenix Sara Garski November 1, 2010 Key Concepts of Organizational Design The concepts of organizational design is much more than who reports to whom and what types of jobs are contained in each department, it is the process that takes and molds the elements of the organizational structure’s desires, demands, constraints, and choices. The process of implementing and choosing the appropriate structure design is contingent on the size of the organization, the operations, the information technology, its environment and the strategy it selects for growth and survival (Hunt, Osborn, & Schermerhorn, 2005, p. 409). Best Snacks face the challenges of planning, analyzing each situation, diagnose or frame the correct problem and proceed to apply the correct solution for helping their organization grow in an environment both dynamic and complex. It is time for Best Snacks to bring about a change (new vision) and move from an uncreative, flat organization to a creative, cutting-edge, innovative organization and management have created several initiatives to foster employees’ creative thinking skills and recruit high creative caliber employees. The push for innovation led to the introduction of new products and services with potential to grow the Best Snacks market share (Week Two Scenario: Best Snacks, 2010, p. 1-5). In this paper, I will provide some key concepts of organizational design and its importance, assessing the relationships between strategy, structure, and process in organizations and the relationship between organization design and decision-making processes are analyzed. In the next section, I will describe the best design choices and the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of various organizational structures (Jones, 2004, p. 95-248).
