COMPUTERS AND EDUCATION Over the past decade computers have become a major focal point on how American students obtain their education. Computers have gone from an idea that people thought of in the past to a necessity for learning in the future. The results have been shown both positive and negative. The use of technology for education has a very positive impact. Computers are making a permanent footprint in education that will never go unchanged. COMPUTERS AND EDUCATION Computers and education have become a common pairing in recent years. As a young boy in the early seventies, people would often say that someday students across America would possess computers as a primary learning tool instead of the traditional learning method of using books. This statement is an understatement nowadays. Access to technology is virtually everywhere. Students have access to computers in the home as well as computers on their phone. Computer tablets are more accessible than the desktop and laptop computers. Computer mobile hotspots and Wi-Fi are available at local coffee shops. The Internet is accessible through mobile phone and television. “Education, which has been a discussion topic from past to present and which has always been an important role in human life, has gained a new dimension with computers becoming the indispensable part of our everyday lives” (Kacar & Doğan, 2010, p. 473). Levine (1997) states that students “have access to the endless information bubbling through cyberspace and it is not empowering” (para. 3). Levine expresses that students do not use their critical thinking skills when presenting an argument in a paper retrieved from the Internet. According to Levine (1997), “they are ill-equipped to interpret or judge the so-called facts, which they insert into their papers confidently” (para. 4). Naturally, when given the tools to present an
