Discuss what you believe should be the extent of the computerization and use of technology. Computerized information technology can streamline nearly every aspect of operations in Peking Palace, from managing table reservations to facilitating communication between restaurant waiter/waitress and chefs in the kitchen. Computer software can also assist management with back-end operations, from completing payroll to tracking inventory. Point of Sale Systems (POS) Peking Palace needs a strategy for taking orders, delivering information to the kitchen and charging customers for their food. This is what the POS can provide. POS system gives Peking Palace’s owners a convenient way of checking out customers and of recording sales. It can keep a record of the store inventory, updating it when an order is processed. It can also print out receipts, carry out credit card processing, track customers, etc. Point of sale software eases the flow at checkout terminals, while recording all the information that can help you make better business decisions. In the Peking Palace, the POS system can be a touch-screen terminal, with a “button” or key specified for each menu item. A server can specify a certain table, and key in the order of each patron. Once the server finishes the order, and confirms with a patron, the system transfers the information to the kitchen staff and chef, either by displaying the orders on a screen or printing them. When the meal is over, the server can transfer the order information easily to cash register or a credit card processing terminal. From there, the patrons can pay for their meal using cash or a credit card. If the system is linked to Peking Palace’s customer services account, the money will be transferred almost immediately.
