Computer Engineering Demand The demand for computer engineers is fairly high, and is growing at a very fast rate. In 2012 there were over one million people employed and the growth expected for the next year is over twenty-two percent which is much higher than the average job’s growth. This jobs growth is expected to continue growing in the future because of the growing use of computers and other electronics such as smart phones or gaming consols. The people that are computer engineers tend to live in the urban areas of the world. This is often because the engineers will have to contact other people easily and have access to the latest technology. Salary The average computer engineer makes nearly triple the United States average pay, but the average starting salary is slightly lower. The average person earns around $95,000 per year or around $44 dollars an hour but the average starting pay is close to $70,000 a year. However if you have experience before joining your career, you can make around $80,000 or more. If you stay in the career long enough it is even possible to make over $150,000. This is a high paying career compared to most other jobs which make around $35,000 a year. Education The education to enter this career often requires the person to major in computer sciences, but there are many instances where employed people have majored in other things. There are many universities that offer majors in a computer science. Some of these colleges include Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and Rice University. The college that people go to is influenced by the options the college provides and often the cost. For example some colleges may offer what you want however it may cost too much and therefore you could not go to it. This is often the case for famous universities like MIT or Stanford.
