Daniel Barton September 20, 2013 AP English Complaint Box: Band-wagoner’s The definition of a band-wagoner is a person who, until a team has success, does not support or like them, and suddenly when the team starts to do well, this person will act like they have been a fan of this team for their whole lives. This occurs most vividly in NCAA Football. The Alabama Crimson Tide have won the National Championship for 3 of the last 4 years. Before these three quickly acquired championships, Alabama had not won a National Championship since 1992. Unfortunately, when Alabama won the first of the rapid three, I saw much more Alabama fans come out of the woodwork. After the second and third Championship, I saw and heard people talking about how they love Alabama football and they have been fans since day one. Now this is very odd, because I could have sworn just about five years ago, that people were not talking about how big Alabama fans they were. Many people give the reason that their parents went there. This is acceptable, but when people get to excuses like, “My great grandpa’s uncle’s cousin’s friend’s roommate back in the 90s was a fan so… I must be.” This is easily the most unrespectable and annoying quality of many college football fans. I, personally, am an Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Everyone in my family, yes even extended family, went to Ohio State and my brother is currently a sophomore. Now you may be thinking, “Hey! This guy is telling me about band-wagoners, but Ohio State just went 12-0 last season. How do I know that he isn’t a band-wagoner himself?” Easy. Ohio State has not won a National Championship since 2002, and I was a fan for the worst seasons and games. It gets easier. Three years ago, Ohio State was hit with NCAA infractions due to Terrelle Pryor and Ohio State was ineligible in the postseason for two years. Subsequently, being an actual fan, I
