I ensure that all safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, are in place and operable. I also use a weekly safety list to ensure that I have checked all parts of my classroom to make sure it’s all safe. Also, I personally am always around to supervise the children in all indoor and outdoor activities. Lastly, I require written parental authorization before allowing people other than parents to pick up children from the class. One of my goals in the functional area of healthy is to prevent the spread of germs in my child care.
When planning activities we must make sure their there is enough space for the activities to be carried out safely. Toilet areas are also checked on a regular basis throughout the day to make sure it is clean, has toilet paper towels and soap available for hand washing. The temperature of the room also needs to be comfortable and sufficient lighting and there is always fresh drinking water available. A first aider will always be present in the rooms. For a child who has a hearing impairment we would provide visual aids for them so they can be made aware of health and safety, for example if a child was running indoor we could have no running signs around the room and point this out to them.
All staff working with children needs to have a CRB check done on them as it is to certify that the adult has not been convicted in any crime in any shape or form. It protects the pupils by ensuring them that the adults employed to work with them are suitable and do not pose any risk to them and it protects adults in the school as the correct procedure have been followed regarding in the employment of staff. Following the visitors procedure is a very safe practice set in school to protect both pupils and adults as all visitors gaining access to the school will be registered in the record book of visitors i.e. all person visiting the school will have to sign in their names and time of arrival and departure, the reason why they have come to visit and whom they are visiting; their car registration number is taken where applicabable and very important of all a visitors badge is given to each person visiting the building. This procedure is followed because it protects the visitor in case of a fire as the visitors book will show who is in the building in case they are missing at the assembly point otherwise their wouldn’t have been a way to know.
Within my setting I carry out daily checks to ensure that the environment inside and outside is safe before the children arrive. If I am covering a new activity I would carry out a new risk assessment form to ensure I have covered everything to ensure the children stay safe while in my care. I ensure all toys and high chairs are cleaned with antibacterial spray to help stop spread of infection. The toilet and kitchen area is cleaned daily enabling me to prepare food and for the children to be able to wash their hands and go to the toilet without the spread of germs. I complete a monthly/Weekly and daily risk assessment for different areas of my setting including the environment inside and outside.
This evidence shows that the setting carries out a strict hygiene assessment to reduce the chances of contamination, they don’t only do this threw practitioners but also by preparing children to reduce the chances as well, they do this by teaching children about personal hygiene this way children are aware and can limit the chances. Job Description for Childcare Practitioner Level 3 This evidence states the role of the practitioner in providing a healthy lifestyle for children and the responsibilities they have to keep children safe as practitioners. the evidence states that practitioners should “ensure that all health and hygiene requirements are adhered at all times” so at whatever time that children are under their care they have to make sure that they are kept safe and healthy. Fact Sheet: Summery of the rights under the Convention on the Rights of the
You can ensure this is followed by taking all the necessary steps to safeguard and promote the welfare of the child, which are ensuring the building is safe and secure, this can be by having the school gates closed and locked so nobody can get in and out without permission and also having people sign in and out, having sensors doors around the school that can only be accessed with fobs. Ensuring there are no risks by doing regular risk assessments and removing any hazards. Promote good health by preventing spread of infection, this could be by advising the child stays off school (viral) or covering the infected area, you can also promote good health by proving healthy snacks and promoting hand washing. Childs behavior must be managed either by rewarding good behavior or following procedures for bad behavior; this could be removing them from the situation and explaining what they have done wrong, maybe giving them time to think about what they have done. 2.1, 2.2 There are a number of potential conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between the duty of care and an individual’s rights such as the child’s information being shared.

Once everyone was ready, we served dessert, which worked as above in terms of self-service, extra helpings and cleaning away. Once a child had finished, they were permitted to play in the room, under instruction not to disturb those still eating. Throughout they were taught the importance of hygiene, starting by washing their hands before the meal and continuing by teaching them not to play with food or eat anything they dropped on the floor. Teaching good hygiene at nursery is important because it influences the how children approach personal hygiene, which will stay with them for life. Teaching the principles of good hygiene is the best way to avoid the spread of infection and other complaints, both in childhood and later in life.
It is my job to make sure they clean their hands properly to remove any bacteria before lunch. In some cases, we have to help the children wash their hands as they are not capable of washing them properly. Food hygiene: Babies and young children are especially vulnerable to the bacteria that can cause food poisoning. Ensure your baby is not at risk as a result of food preparation and serving. Always wash your hands well before preparing food and after touching raw meat, fish and eggs.
Competency Goal 1 To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I will first check outside to see if there is any potholes in the ground that way children don’t fall in while running. If there was any recent rain, I will check the area to see if there is any water. I will also check the play equipment if there’s any water on it, any bugs on them, and if all the bolts and screws are in tight. When we are playing outside or indoors, I will make sure all the children are doing what they are suppose to do. If we are coloring or making arts and crafts, I will supervise the children.
