Comparing Being Prey And Ric's Speech

Survival Death is not a strange word for each person. No one can face it in a calm mentality with the consequence of losing anime and the time in the world. There are two experiences about survival that showing up from different people with different ways. One is shown in an essay Being Prey which is written by Val Plumwood, the other one is narrated by a speech that Ric Elias gave in 2011. While some differences between Val’s essay and Ric’s speech are the lessons they learned and the language they used to describe the events, the similarities are the attitude that they have for the events. The lessons that Val and Ric learned are different. In Being Preying, Val’s told readers two things that she had learned from the event. First one, as she wrote, “It is a humbling and cautionary tale about our relationship with the earth.”(Plumwood, 2008, p82) She realized that while…show more content…
In the essay, Val wrote in a specific language and the vivid words to describe the details. For example, she wrote, “The golden eyes glinted with interest.” “Before my foot even tripped the first branch, I had a blurred, incredulous vision of great toothed jaws bursting from the water.” (Plumwood, 2008, p79) Those specific details show Val’s feelings. She thought it was not that “lucky” to meet the crocodile at that time. Contrasted to Val’s narrative, Ric’s speech is short and there is only few description of the event. He focused on what he thought at that time. The similarities between the essay and the speech are the attitude that Val and Ric have for the thrilling experience. Although those two events almost brought their life in an unknown way, they did not hate that experience. Because of those experiences, they learned a lot to think about what they should do in their life when they are alive. The experience is kind of an opportunity to bring them to a high quality life.
