Riding the Roller Coaster of Love Have you ever heard the saying “a relationship is like riding a roller coaster”? Just think back to when you first fell in love as well as the first time you rode a roller coaster. What was it like? How did it make you feel? Were you scared or excited? I’m sure as you were pondering all those questions you found that there were many surprising comparisons between the two. Just like riding a roller coaster, loving somebody is emotional, has its highs and lows, and can end in a split second. Roller coasters always seem to be the main reason people go to amusement parks. You may get to do other activities, but, at the end of the day, if you don’t get to go on at least one roller coaster, you pretty much can say you’ve wasted your time. Although the ride is short; you can feel a vast amount of emotions during the ride. Remember back to the first time you were waiting in line to ride a roller coaster. You anxiously waited for your turn to get buckled up for the exciting ride that awaits you when all of a sudden, a flood of emotions comes over you. Loving someone can be seen the same way. At the start of the relationship you are so excited to meet your significant other. You can’t wait to find out more about them, in fact, you want to know EVERYTHING- and then it hits you. Fear of the unknown comes over you as you realize the risk you are about to take. Getting in the cart of the roller coaster, you just put your life in someone’s hands that you don’t really know; you just trust them and hold on. Comparing that to a relationship, you first start off giving someone all your trust that you really do not know all that well. You go in blindly giving them all of your heart and you trust them to handle it well. Imagine you’re going up the hill of a roller coaster; this can be compared to when you’re in a good spot in your relationship.
